Roof Failure - DB9 GT Volante

Hi all.

Today my wife had an issue with her roof. It almost fully closed to the point where the front of the roof was nearly closed but stopped just short of the windscreen frame where it latches down. Threw an error - roof movement incomplete and roof fault detected.

Had to manually close the roof fully, but the rear quarter windows are still down.

Tried disconnecting the battery, leaving for 5 minutes and reconnecting, but this hasn’t worked…still throws the same messages and beeps all over the place when you try to operate the roof.

Any ideas, similar experiences, solutions?

Will be calling a specialist near me tomorrow, but if it something that I could sort at home, that would save a lot of agg…

Money on roof module. Happens to all volante’s sooner or later.

Is only a 2016 car with 11100 miles! I am taking it to a trusted specialist tomorrow that I know to see what he can find. One dealer I spoke to mentioned something about a “hard reset” presumably involves hooking up to diagnostics.

Could be module, I guess. There is no noise from any of the motors. Just that warning beep form the message centre.

Is the trunk/boot shut properly? I had that once where i reopened it and shut it and everything started working again

Yes, the boot lid is shut and the tonneau cover part that lifts so the roof can fold down is also shut properly.

Can you manually lift that if I were to manually release the hood from the window frame using the Allen key? I think it has just had a brain fart and just needs resetting to be honest.

You, Sir, are a genius.

This morning I manually released the roof from the top
of the windscreen frame using the Allen Key. I lifted the front of the roof away and also lifted the back of the roof up, so it was raised front and back.

I then dropped the door windows and pressed the roof switch. It all folded away perfectly! I then pressed the button again and the roof closed perfectly and all
Locked into place.

I then reset the windows and electrically opened and closed the roof several times - all worked perfectly.

So, thank you for that input!

My wife did say that she had stopped the roof cycle mid way when it did go wrong because she was distracted by something, reckon it’s then had a brain fart. She knows not to stop the roof mid cycle and it was uncharacteristic that she did.

Glad it solved the issue - if I’m honest i called aston martin assistance out when mine did it and they did this and made me feel rather silly - but hey !

I could not find a way to open the tonneau cover though, all,I could do was lift the rear of the roof up. Still, it did the trick as I say.

The relief was palpable, as I was about to drive it about 140 miles to my trusted specialist (he looks after my Lambo), as Aston Cambridge is now gone and my local Aston Specialist in Long Stratton was booking ahead to the end of July! - due in part to Cambridge closing down.

The thought of no convertible V12 with a heatwave coming and a few proms towards the end of the month (freebies) was frustrating.
