I renewed the PCV valve on my 2006 4.3 V8V engine last week, as it's high mileage and I have no history of it ever being changed. Pure preventative maintenance as I have no symptoms or problems.

I bought an OEM Aston Martin part, but once fitted there was a strange noise (a sort of buzzing) coming from the new valve. I swopped back to old one, which continued to be silent. Okay, a faulty part I thought, so I bought another OEM valve from a different source - exactly the same buzzing noise on idle, which goes away when I refit the old one.

So now I'm confused. Is the PCV valve supposed to buzz, or have I just been unlucky in getting two faulty ones (perhaps a batch issue)? Or is my old silent valve faulty and not working at all?

I'd be really interested to know if your valves buzz, so to speak...

Or was the original one you took of faulty as it didn't buzz? Don't know if it shoulda.

Yes, exactly - I don't now know if the original is at fault, or the new one(s).

If I could find out if the PCV valve is supposed to buzz/vibrate when it's working properly then I'd know. Can anyone help?

(It's the black round flat plastic thing sat near the air intake hose, above the thermostat.)

I stumbled across a YouTube channel (Redpants) earlier today who covered the PCV and he says a buzzing PCV means a fault.

Worth watching if you haven't already, and then looking at this link to Redpants where a brief description is made ....

Thanks all for your help. In the end I bought a third (unbranded) PCV valve from eBay, which turned out to be identical to the OEM ones - all the same markings, dimensions, serial numbers, etc. That one was silent, like the original, so I think my conclusion is that I had two faulty parts (perhaps a batch quality issue). Anyway, all fixed now.
