Oil pressure light on before starting

Hi all- looking for a piece of advice if possible, as I’m not sure if I’m going mad!
I’ve today noticed that when turning the key to the 2nd click, all of the warning lights go out except the amber engine light and the red oil pressure light. When pressing the start engine button, both of these lights go out. I cannot for the life of me remember if this has always been the case, or if this is a new thing- is this an issue? I’ve checked the oil level and added some more to just below the max level, and (afaik) there is no leak. Any help greatly appreciated, T.I.A

Without the engine running you wont have oil pressure, hence the light is on.

Both totally normal and show the light(s) is operational.

Hopefully you will know this, but just in case, I will mention.

If you are new to your Vantage, are you familiar with the unusual way of checking the oil level? Otherwise it is easy to mistakenly overfill, which would not be good.

Thanks BG. I thought this would be the case, but was concerned as all the others go off and it is just those two that stay on. Happy for this to be the answer though! Many thanks

Sorry I should have mentioned- it’s a 2008 DB9 I have. By that do you mean the short dipstick? I have checked to make sure that I’ve got the shorter one (so hopefully a good measure of oil)- but if this is not what you were referring to then please let me know!

Sorry I should have mentioned- it’s a 2008 DB9 I have. By that do you mean the short dipstick? I have checked to make sure that I’ve got the shorter one (so hopefully a good measure of oil)- but if this is not what you were referring to then please let me know!

Apologies, my mistake. I don't know why, but I had assumed you have a Vantage.
They have dry sump engines, so checking the oil level is not conventional. Confusion can arise, if the car has not been started for several weeks.

My Vantage is not dry sumped.

...but not the V12 Vantage, or the Bloxham, Newport Pagnell, or Feltham Vantage models.
