Emissions system service required… new thread

Hi guys

For the last 6 months or so I have the infamous ESSR warning message appearing intermittently on my 2013 V8 Vantage. It comes and goes….sometimes seems dependent on being able to feed her full fat Shell but not always…..sometimes seems to be completely random!

My question here is what exactly is involved in an Emission System Service?? Approx cost?

Advice much appreciated.

Peter Tomalin wrote about this exact thing in Evo issue 300. It turned out to be faulty mass air sensors and rodent damage. Cost him £664 to fix at a specialist.

I have had this only once, I am 99% convinced because I almost ran out of fuel, down to 6 miles and running on fumes.
I am curious, does the warning go away or do you clear it with an OBD reader?

I cleared mine and its been fine since.

I’m not sure there is such a thing as a standard service for the ‘Emissions System.’
The message comes up because a fault has been detected but it can be due to a host of reasons not necessarily caused by items directly related to ‘emissions.’
There are several YouTube videos on the subject and the first step is to plug in an OBDII reader.

Thanks for your replies. The tester being referred to here….is it OBD 2 or 11…sounds like they’re very different but.cunningly similarly named to confuse a blonde….

I have a really cheap one that I owned before the DB9. It doesn’t tell you exactly but does clear codes.

I had the message shortly after buying it which was put down to lack of use whilst it was at the dealers.

I changed the sensors at the following service as a precaution.

I had this on mine. Intermittent. Then more-than-intermittent.

I took it to Aston Engineering in Derby (when they still did VH2 cars) and they replaced two O2 sensors on the CATS. Been fine ever since (2+ years)
