The difference between SS1 & SS2

Question

I have a 2009 SS1 v8 ,having replaced the clutch for a DA lightweight two part

What is the actual difference between the SS1 and SS2 and can the SS1 be uprated to SS2?

Sportshift 1 has a 6 speed gearbox.
Sportshift 2 has a 7 speed gearbox (first introduced with the V8 Vantage S).

SS2 also has a different calibration/map, and was further developed by AM for the 7-speed box, speeding things up, tweaking the hypershift mode, removing the 'crawl' function, removing the need for a manual clutch learn and adding hill hold etc, all from introduction of S in 2011. Later software developments further upgraded ASM2, introducing downshift blips, faster changes with twin plate clutches and even extended into enhanced control functions for the cars with the 7-speed 'box and 3rd pedal. The developments to the full ASM2 were called 'ASM3' when used in the V12VS, and the software continued to be developed and improved through to the end of the life of the car. I'm not sure which of the V12VS ASM3 changes were used/copied in the later V8V/S with the 7-speed box. Maybe some, though new calibration would have been required for the smaller motor.

I believe the independents can flash improved/later software maps onto the ASM1 TCM, especially when a twin plate clutch is fitted, which give many of the improvements/benefits of TCM2, though I'm not sure to what extent, i.e. whether all the added functions of TCM2 can be added, such as hill hold.

I would feel sure that there are some contributors on here who can provide a definitive answer. Or you could read Grant's book
