DB9 rear screen explodes

Took my DB9 for its MOT. Car parked in sunshine outside the MOT garage and rear screen exploded for no reason.

I’ve never seen this before. Is it a thing?

There was an issue early in db9 where the heated rear screen got too hot and it broke the screen, as I understand it a software change limited the on time.
I know it doesn’t explain your problem but it’s the only thing I’ve ever heard causing broken screen

Years ago I had an MG ZR (pretty much the same as your Aston). Driving to work one cold morning the rear screen just shattered into a million pieces with a massive bang.
No apparent reason.

In a previous job I had to visit a pilkington glass r&d site semi regularly. I asked the lab manager about the incident. His answer was an inclusion within the glass that was effected by the temp variation between inside and outside.
So basically a manufacturing fault within the glass. Wuite common on tempered glass.

Thanks for the responses. However, as my car is a 2005 model I think we just have to put it down to the weather undoubtedly caused by either Putin or Brexit.

Not the same but I had a 1999 Saxo VTR that was a couple of months old, closed the bootlid and the whole back window shattered into a thousand pieces lol

Actually that's one bit of mine that hasn't broken yet... but it's only December, plenty of winter left...

Perhaps it was weakened by a stone chip?

The more I look at it the more I think Putin was jealous of your MG ZR-a-like and decided to launch a cruise missile and hit your back window with a tactical nuke.

Could it be that the heated rear screen was also accidentally on as well as being in the sun? Also, if some of the elements were faulty, uneven heating? Did your garage wash it with water of a different temp to the glass?
