My cruise control engagement is unpredictable. Any advice?

There are many on here who will try to help, however you need to provide more information.

What do you mean by ‘unpredictable’? ie what are the symptoms, describe in detail what happens. What is the year of your car? has it had any form of recent intervention? How long has the ‘unpredictability’ been present? Did it suddenly appear or has it been slowly developing?

If you add as much detail as you can, I’m sure someone will recognise something and offer advice. The cars have been around long enough that virtually every fault there can be has been seen before and is known

It is a 2009 DB 9 Volante with 18,000 miles. Initially the cruise control would engage when multiple squeezes of the control were performed. Yesterday it would not engage at all. Once it engages the increase and decrease speed functions work well. There has not been any work on the steering wheel or other electrical systems during the 1 year I've owned the car.

I started having what sounds like similar problems with the buttons on the other side of the steering wheel of my 2015 DB9. Sometimes they'd work other times nothing or intermittent working. I could make the problem slightly better by pressing firmly on the inside of the buttons. My dealer took the unit out and gave it a clean but ultimately it still wasn't working properly and they're going to replace the buttons. Given your buttons control something more important than the radio/satellite navigation I'd be tempted to have them checked out.

I will have my shop evaluate it. Since the airbag unit is adjacent to the buttons I don't plan to work on it myself. The part may be a Ford or Volvo item. If so, I hope to avoid the dealer mark up.
