Hi all,

Recently purchased a V8 Vantage, enjoying getting to know the car and all of its quirks.

A couple of things I can't seem to work out though and wondered if any owners could help please?

1) My sat nav doesn't talk. Anyone know what I need to do to get him/her to communicate with me please? I remember on an old Porsche of mine that it was possible to accidentally turn down the nav and you had to time it right to get the volume back up. Same here maybe?

2) How do I know if I have Bluetooth please? I have phone buttons on the stereo system but I don't have controls on the steering wheel. Assume this means I don't have it?

3) My car looks to have had a backup camera fitted but I don't know how this works (I don't think it does). Is this a common retrofit, any suggestions where to look/check? I'm assuming it was never fitted as the factory back in 2006!

Thankyou!

Think 1 and 3 are interlinked, i dont think you can just feed a video signal into the oem unit so its probably had a bit done to it. Its not somethin I have looked at in great detail as i intend to throw it all in the bin.

I would consider giving aston installations a call on the reversing camera / nav and see what they say.

2: as far as i know, if its not on the wheel, its not in the car (unless someone's changed the wheel)

If you have a reverse camera, you may also have phone mirroring (this is what Aston Installations can do). If you have phone mirroring, it’s quite likely you’ll have aftermarket Bluetooth too.

Do you have a small control / switch inside your ashtray / power socket in the centre console?

If you have standard satnav, it’s not worth spending time trying to get it to give any sound…. It’s, erm, “dated”….

Thanks Iain!

I've had a play this evening and finally found the option for volume on the SatNav so I have that working. I can't find a way to get the rear camera working though. I'm tempted to write to the previous owner and ask him how it was wired up and go from there. smile

Thanks for confirming re: Bluetooth, I see mine has the option to put the SIM card in the dashboard, as was the way back then, and I don't have the steering wheel buttons so I don't think Bluetooth is an option for me, which is a shame as that's all its missing really on the audio system.

Hi Nigel,

I can't find any small controls or switches that look out of the ordinary unfortunately, so I've no idea how it was set up. confused

I've been playing with the nav tonight and managed to get the voice working. It isn't any more intuitive than when I first got the car though haha! Although interestingly, a few weeks ago I went out for a run on the North Yorks Moors and managed to get completely lost, with no phone signal! It was the trusty Aston navigation that found my way back to civilisation! laugh

Thanks for the tips, will keep searching for how this camera is set up!

If you don't have bluetooth and want to add it then I fitted a Mr12Volt bluetooth adapter designed for Volvo headunits and it works very well. They piggyback on the CD changer MOST connector.

Like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255861641621? (though they warn "Please DO NOT purchase this product for an Aston Martin").

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfzxnWnTj3s that covers the install.
