Morning all

I will be renewing the warranty, but as this is my first year of ownership, I am looking for peoples help on how this process occurs.

I am planning to get the next service & MOT done at a different dealership from where I bought the car, as that is more convenient, so how does this work in terms of the renewal.

Is it the warranty company that approaches me, the original dealer, or do I have to contact any dealer?

Finally, on the Pre Owned web site, it says the Timeless Warranty is for cars 10 years or younger, so as mine will be 10 in May and the warranty expires in June, maybe I cannot extend it?

So many questions!!

Again, thanks to all who reply, its appreciated

Kevin

It does not matter where work is done in terms of the extended official AM warranty it just needs to be a franchise dealer. Mine has had work done at Sevenoaks and AM Works, although the renewal was done by Sevenoaks, and the car from Western Avenue under Timeless.

The 10 thing, well you might be able to, but you may not. They base the renewal on when it is put in.

You can take the car to be serviced and MOT'd at your most convenient dealer, and also ask them to deal with the warranty extension.

in my experience you will have both the warranty company and original dealer contacting you to extend it well ahead of time.

As long as you don't let it lapse, you won't have to pay any inspection costs, just the premium.

A separate point to your question is whether to renew at all on a 10 year old car ? How much is the premium compared to the value of the car ?
I had a DB9 and kept it until 16 years old without major issue and without renewing the warranty. I saved myself a considerable sum over that period.

I assume Kevin, that if renewal is due soon, you might have now owned your car for almost one year.

Has your car been reasonably faultless during that time (I remember you had a replacement clutch)?
Do you now have confidence, that it seems to be a reliable car?
If you renew this year, does that mean you will continue to renew every year in future?

With my 4.7, it had no faults during my first year of ownership.
Therefore was confident not to renew the warranty.
Am now almost £25,000 up, through not buying warranty.

Claimable items during more than 10 years, would have been peanuts.
Major cost has been the clutch, but that would not have been covered by warranty anyway (and a good excuse for a twin plate).

There, a few thoughts for you to ponder.
Sorry if I have complicated your plan.

Thank you all for your comments they are most welcome.

I am quite a risk averse person! I am keen to extend the warranty for at least another year, just for peace of mind really. I am coming up on a year of ownership in May, but the MOT & Service will be done in April.

So far the car has been pretty good, the odd funny gremlins, but nothing a turn on and off does not sort. The clutch was done, and as part of that the ASM pump was replaced as it turned out to be faulty, which was done on the warranty. Next year I will be in a better financial place, as I reach 55.

I will be quite interested to see what the MOT & Service is like this year, as it will be the cars first time at another dealer, as all the services have been completed by the same dealer from new, but getting there is not convenient.

So I think based on the replies so far, I will be contacted to extended it or I can be more proactive and get the dealer doing the service in April to sort it out at the time.

Much appreciated to you all taking time to reply.

Thanks

I think the 'timeless warranty' is a good one, a very good one and really not that expensive all things considered and AM aftercare is excellent I found. I had two replacement engines, replacement gearbox, seat modules, aux belt noises in 6k miles all covered.

Mine is also up the first week in June and, like yourself, I'm a little on the risk averse side of things so it'll be renewed.

With it being to do with money coming in they'll get in touch with you, no doubt on that.

I bought it from Brentwood, Essex, and then I had the clutch done by Brentwood about 8 weeks later. When I had the clutch done, I was going to drive it down myself, and then get the train back, not super inconvenient, but still not great. Anyway the day arrives and the trains are all on strike, so I had to get the Mrs to follow me down in the Focus, and then drive me back.

Collecting was equally a pain, as the rail strikes were still on, and so again, we drove down in the Focus on a Saturday collected it and drove back again in 2 cars.

Now the problem is that Brentwood is not too far, but there's not a lot to do all day to occupy me when it goes in, and if there is anything wrong it would need to be left, and then I have to get back home etc.

So as my local dealer in Cambridge closed down, I am within the 50 mile radius of Aston Martin Works, who will collect it. Then I ain't got to get home and if there is anything that needs doing they can keep it and just deliver it back when it's ready.

So less hassle, less mileage, less petrol. Plus, if it's raining it won't get too wet as she will be loaded onto the truck.

So thats my thinking at the moment, I had thought about HWM Flying Technician, but I don't think my drive space is big enough, plus I want the MOT and service done exactly at the same time then its all done for another year.

So its not like I overthink these things!!!

You might not be inconvenienced again by those strikers Kevin.
In future just try to book your service with the state owned standard garage, then they might let you know when they can fit you in, for their all-car generic service (no additional work permitted). You might have to wait for quite a while, but no complaining, because there won't be an alternative.

It will probably be like one of President Regan's Soviet jokes.
"We will deliver your new Moskvitch car in 7 years time."
"Will that be morning, or afternoon?"
"Does it matter, it won't be for 7 years?"
"Yes, the plumber is coming in the morning."

Do you remember the days when Post Office Telephones, were asked by a new customer for a phone connection.
"We might be able to do that in about six months time and your phone has to be black."
And would you believe it, that was in the UK. Those state employees had no need to hurry.
Today's youngsters, who expect a huge choice of mobile phone immediately, don't seem to realise what they are campaigning for.

News item today.
The head of the railway union (does that involve the drivers on £65,000, who have to use food banks?) has apparently now written to his union leaders, telling them to do more to speed up, “the suppression of the capitalist system, to be replaced by a socialistic order of society.”

Our Aston Martins will be the first things to be confiscated, by a socialistic order of society.
The state already knows you have one.

If you can it may be worth instigating a two year Timeless warranty even if this goes over the 10 years.

My Vanquish was coming up to 4 years old the warranty would increase in the fifth year from £2K to £2.5K.

Put two years on for £4K and still covered even though car was then into its fifth year.

May I ask that as you bought the car from Brentwood and then had the clutch change 8 weeks later can I assume it was foc?

FOC
Nope, I did all the preparations before but forgot to ask the dealer to give me the estimated clutch wear, so after a few weeks I took it back and asked for how worn it was, their estimate was around 80. %

So it could have been okay but I knew that if it went the car could leave me stranded so I took the hut and had it replaced. Wow it drove so much better as well

School boy error but we live and learn

Don't beat yourself up about it Kev', you were done by a car dealer as was I. They would've known about the clutch no doubt about it. A friend of mine when I started having problems the very next day after delivery said to me, " Don't worry, it's not a dodgy second hand car dealer you dealing with" But, I'm afraid the sales guys are all the same and they are indeed second hand car salesmen. AM were fantastic resolving my issues along with the 'timeless warranty' I'd say actually incredible and I can't thank them enough for restoring my faith in the brand literally going above and beyond but some main dealers need reigning in, especially when they do their own 'timeless' inspection knowing full well that faults are present yet leaving it to customer/warranty to pay. I sense that my posts here are uncomfortable for some thinking I am disrespecting AM but it's quite the opposite as I can't sing AM's praises enough or indeed the cars. But, as beautiful as these cars are they are not 'bulletproof' and some main dealers need firing.
ETA, my local AM dealer were a pleasure and also helped endlessly.

I remember those days well. .....and if you were in a business that needed a phone line in a hurry, you would apply for one in the usual way, wait until you had your estimated installation date, then call your local PO engineer and he would have it installed in a week.

That was if he wasn't on his Caribbean holiday, of which he took many at your expense (brown envelope)

To be honest , the car had 48,000 miles on it
So it could have been worse but I love it to death.

But thanks for your words of encouragement mate

It’s all part of the ownership experience, I love being part of the Aston Martin family , I don’t think I have ever experienced anything so great
