Recently seen the Bamford Rose video about fuel. Always run my DB9on super unleaded, then decided to try Esso. What a difference, smoother idle, better pickup, can't fault it. Apparently even though it's classed as E5,it has no bio fuel added. Look at their video on fuel.

I have always stuck with Shell V power mostly because of the cleaning agents

Around here Shell are quite common but the only Esso garage is now a Texaco but I might give this Esso a try out

Yes, I have been using ESSO Supreme since the 10% ethanol was introduced, in all my cars and crucially a lawn mower.
Mowers and historic cars hate ethanol and get their own back by causing problems. Mowers play their game of refusing to start, following periods of inactivity.

Expect you know that the E5 labels mean up to 5% (zero being up to 5%)
The ESSO Supreme is not nil ethanol in all parts of the UK.

I am not expert enough to feel, or detect any difference between fuels. What are the tell-tale signs?
There's an idea, for a YouTuber to carry out a 'blind' test on drivers. Like wine tasting, but with a steering wheel. - smile

Look at Bamford video on petrol. They have to put E5 on the pump for government standards. Check it out especially the tests he does with each so called super unleaded petrol.

This is copied directly from Esso's website Esso Fuels FAQs ... 'Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 contains zero ethanol, except (for logistics reasons) sites supplied from Scotland, North Wales, North England and Cornwall.'

So depending where in the country you are, it may or may not contain ethanol.

Not sure about VH cars, but all secondary century cars were type approved and tested on Esso. I have found my Vantage run far better on it than any other.

I would go so far to say I have found Shell V Power the worst of all.

Probably something like this:
Esso
BP
Tesco
Shell

But Esso made the biggest difference to the idle.

I was aware of the Esso and zero ethanol in their premium unleaded. Since owning my car I have tended to use mainly Tesco and Esso as they are the two that are closest to me.

Can't say I have ever noticed a difference to how the car runs, idles etc. from one fuel to the other. I'm intrigued to know what the differences are in how the car feels.

I too am mystified by that, so asked the question.

No replies so far.

I read that and noted there was no response to it so thought I would ask the question again.

I also switched to Esso SS+ when the E10 rubbish came out.

Can't say I've ever noticed a difference at idle, but when driving the engine certainly seems more powerful to me. Given its a fact that there is more power to be had, it certainly seems logical, even if it is in fact just confirmatory bias.

That said the extra cost of the fuel over E10 95RON is insignificant really in the overall cost of ownership, certainly almost no more expensive than other brand 99RON fuels like V-Power, and as I plan to keep both cars indefinitely so I see no reason to use the E10 stuff and risk any long term detriment, unless of course I'm caught short in the middle of nowhere and it's absolutely the only choice.

You should also get a higher mpg for similar driving if switch to higher octane fuel as especially as standard is now E10.

Got pretty decent mpg in Germany with Aral Ultimate 102 despite some faster roads. And did notice a difference with car compared to premium UK stuff
