2017 vanquish - more white xenon bulbs?
Discussion
Hi
I just baught a beautiful 2017 vanquish and the xenon seem a bit yellowish. The car is black and I’d love the beam to be whiter with a light hint of blue (also just white would be great) like new led or xenon lights.
Any ideas what I need to change in the car?
Anyone with a similar experience?
Thanks 😊

My Vanquish is similar in that the beam does have a warmer temperature to them. However I can count on 1 hand how many times they get used.
Most of my driving is done on sunny High days and almost never at night. Headlights are for those occasions where I was caught out in bad weather and then I get more focused on how long its going to take me to clean her back up !!
I believe fitting bulbs involves removing wheels and wheel.arch liners and can be a bit of a ball ache given you're just trying to change a bulb

I take the car out a lot in the night to dinners and stuff. I think I like the 5000 or the 6000.
Anyone know the brand and model and how much Kelvin come on the standard Vanquish 2017.
Might help me decide the exact color to go for if I know what I have now I might be able to understand better.
Thx

are we talking about swapping out the whole headlight unit here with one with a different colour temp, or are you saying the bulb can be changed? If its a whole unit swap of both then its going to be a rather expensive upgrade.
I've always understood that the headlights are sealed units and if any bulb fails (or needs changing), then its either a whole new unit or off to some backstreet boys who are able to open it up to repair and reseal...

If they are sealed units I would be more than extremely surprised!
HID bulbs have a limited life, they can fail and they certainly get dimmer over their lifetime so I would be amazed if Aston sealed these headlights. The bulbs are definitely changeable in DB9 and Vantages.
The owners manual says that there are not renewable, but they also say that in the manual for the early DB9 Headlights and they are changeable - Its only because HIDs use high voltage that they say they are not renewable - It's the world we live in, if some one hurts themselves because they stupidly left the lights switched on when changing bulbs then Aston could potentially be sued.

Well well - I am surprised, and I was basing my understanding largely on Vantage to be fair as that's the model I've owned the longest and most familary with, but I was assuming all VH cars would all be the same construction as very similar really.HID bulbs have a limited life, they can fail and they certainly get dimmer over their lifetime so I would be amazed if Aston sealed these headlights. What's with all the headlamp ventilation and sealing them in the oven threads then if the bulbs presumably have a air/water cap around them to facilitate replacement? Or do the bulbs maybe sit outside the sealed area, with the seal on the big glass lenses in front of the main and dipped beam bulbs maybe?
Looking at the pics on this ebay advert I can see that the back third section of the unit may indeed clip apart, but the rest looks very much sealed.

Just checked and the bulbs are replaceable on all the VH cars.
The main structure of the headlights are sealed (lens, body and rear) but they all have a cap that is removed to change the bulbs. On the DB9/Vanquish it is either 1 or 2 rubber caps that peel off and on the Vantage it is a plate that is held on by 2 bolts.
The caps/plates are indicated by the red arrows

Well well - thank you, good to know!
OP let us know how you get on with the improved colour/brightness bulbs.
That said I reckon the replacement of them is beyond my own willingness/ability to tinker with my cars, not least of which I have no way of getting a wheel off in my garage to even contemplate removing the wheel arch liner, let alone the necessary subsequent steps!

Why a hair dryer? ????
A rather common fault on all VH Astons is the front headlamps (and the rear clisters too to be fair), getting moisture inside which causes them to steam up and ultimately leads to an early death for the led arrays used for sidelights and indicators. The units are all £1500+ each to replace, so hence people are rather reluctant to rush to pay that.
Various diy solutions found and often posted includind dissassembling the unit and baking in the oven on gas mark2 for 15 mins (or whatever it actually is), to buying and fitting electrically operated diy fit extractor fan kits that suck the humidity out - one fan per unit!
But indeed it seems like a but of old school hairdryer tech is all that was ever needed.

On later Vantages (mine is 2017) you only have to unclip the section of the wheel arch liner in the picture below (turn the wheel to get full access), unscrew two brass nuts which you can do with your fingers and you then can change the bulbs.
The later owners manuals show the procedure if you have this fitting.

The peg at the bottom of the opening is back where it should be for anyone that has noticed.
