If you’re looking for louder the std DBS one doesn’t make much dIfference. You would be better off with with an aftermarket one like Quicksilver although be warned that the Supersports one is VERY loud all the time, I swapped one off mine as it was annoying and antisocial. If you want louder and switchable then Capristo is the one to go for, it’s not cheap but sounds amazing.
I put a V12 Vantage AMR box on mine, it may open up other opportunities if you can establish whether any V12 box can fit the DB9.
This is my V8 Vantage with V12 box. It’s about half the size and weight and as you can see, when the valves are open it is a completely straight through system.

With stainless tuned length headers and 200cell cats it can be a little too uncouth, however I do have a quiet button.

I deleted secondary cats, installed an ex pipe (not straight pipe) and the exhaust guru cut the rear muffler/box around the top and diverted some of the sound deadening pipes and removed some insulation material then welded back together. The after effect was smoother running, more beefy note and a wonderful crack when changing gears over 4000 rpm. Not an expensive exercise. Well worth it and everything lined up perfectly when put back together.

Do you have any photographs of inside the exhaust? be interested to see thatAny sound clips / videos?

I have a set of Quicksilver rear straight through pipes that replace secondary CATS.
Best option IMO that are easy to fit and guve best sound !!
Hi Tony,Best option IMO that are easy to fit and guve best sound !!
I think the original poster already has that and was looking to replace his back box in addition to the straight through pipes.
Lots of past threads on here about back box options which result in that a DBS one gives a more aggressive but stock (not Ferrari sounding) sound whilst retaining the switchable element.
As a previous poster on this thread suggests a Vanquish >2013 one may be an option if the hen’s teeth DBS one can’t be found.
Shame one can’t be borrowed to allow a fabricator to emulate one - There doesn’t seem to be many sensibly priced back boxes that retain the switch.
How does the DBS muffler sound versus Vanquish II muffler? Both would be a straight swap for a DB9.
The Vanquish S had the quad exhaust pipes so isn't a straight swap. I've driven a Vanquish S which was extremely loud at idle (night and day vs DB9). Foot to the floor it's certainly louder too.
Does anyone have photographs of the inside of a DB9 / DBS exhaust? From what i can find, the DB9 box has perforations in the pipes (which run through the silencer) for both the 'valve open' and 'valve closed' routes. I’m thinking if a fabricator replaces the ‘exhaust open’ pipe route with a fully closed pipe my ‘quiet’ mode remains the same and ‘loud’ mode gets louder. Has anyone opened one up or done this?
I found the below photo of a DB9 box at DB9S.com, though can't see everything.

I saw this PHer (from another thread) did a modification to the standard silencer box like i'm wondering about:

I had an my 09 db9 and I deleted the secondary cats, installed an x pipe and had the tech cut the top off the standard exhaust and he re routed some of the pipes inside to make it more direct. This way it retained the standard rear box but improved its sound immensely and it wasn"t harsh just healthy and easy to live with.
There was no issue with check engine lights etc. The car seemed to breath better and did seem a little more responsive. It wasnt at a big cost either.

I was going to modify the DB9 box by removing the perforations (My pictire on DB9S.com) but ended up buying a Vanquish 2 S rear box.
I don't know what the difference is between a DB9 and DBS box as they look identical from outside but I'm guessing it could just be a straight pipe instead of the perforations making it louder when the valves are open.

Do you have more photos of the inside of the DB9 backbox? It’s hard to see exactly what’s going on overall with the one photo I could find I don't know what the difference is between a DB9 and DBS box as they look identical from outside but I'm guessing it could just be a straight pipe instead of the perforations making it louder when the valves are open.

Got a few more photos ,but I still have the box open in my workshop if you need anymore.
Thanks - that’s helpful. Would you be able to take some more photos showing all the pipe work inside the silencer? I’m looking to understand the path the exhaust takes in both the ‘open’ and ‘closed’ routes to then work out what work inside the silencer might be possible for a louder/deeper ‘open’ setting. On a side note, do you know how your Vanquish II S exhaust compares to other VH cars like Vanquish (non S), DBS & DB9? Louder no doubt but any other differences?
I’ve driven a 2018 Vanquish S and it really was rather loud at idle and then while driving with valves closed or open.
