Hi all,

Any recommendations for insurers? I’ve done the usual CTMeerkat option and getting decent quotes but they’re the usual Elephant, Admiral, Bell, Churchill options - does anyone recommend a well priced specialist that are good with claims and using high quality repairers of my choosing should the undesirable happen?

Cheers in advance! smile

Standard reply from me on this type of question is use a Broker - they do all the work and hopefully can line you up with a decent Insurer - I use Nowell and Richards.
They use so called HNW insurers such as Chubb , ZPC and Aviva and tend to favour multi car policies.
Other brokers are available obvs.
Other suggestions - A Plan supposedly good and NFU and Locktons ( they are AMOC ‘s Insurer ) also worth a shout.
None of the above will be cheap though but that wasn’t your question !
Good luck.

I use Aviva Direct.

Modest price and choose your own repairer.
Premium actually went down last time. Think it was £450, but cannot really compare, because location, age, claims, convictions, mileage etc., can be so variable.

Did it originally with the same insurer through a broker (A-Plan) at £750.

Used NFU for a few years, but they took a dislike to Astons and as others here also discovered. They trebled their renewal invitation, which was coded language for, "You have never claimed, but clear off".

Direct Line. 412 with no , no claims bonus

I didn’t bother looking anywhere else and bought before they changed their mind

I have just renewed with them and it went down to 398

Can’t fault it

Firstpoint here for mine.

Current year which ends soon has been with Covea. Agreed value policy, driving other cars fully comp up to the agreed value or £125k (in my case agreed value), garaging condition between 10pm and 6am, 11k a year.

This coming year, Covea have pulled their HNW policy entirely due to Range Rover theft, essentially. New policy is with Zurich Private Clients (ZPC) it is more, but agreed value policy plus market value if the cars value increases up to 50% over the agreed value, driving other cars fully comp with no value restriction, excess is lower, tracker (CAT5) is required, but they will allow the car to be left outside overnight unlike Covea again 11k per year.

ERS were another suggested by firstpoint, but required garaging 10pm to 6am if not at home again and only would go to 9k per year.

Dual were another but again 9k max.

Chubb hate my postcode, weirdly.

All policies not available on the open market and broker only. In summary go to a broker like alscar has said and get an HNW policy.

For me it has been wonderful being able to jump in other cars without concern (although subject to some conditions about it not being yours etc.)

Both Mia and Emma have dealt with my car at Firstpoint, ZPC has a good record with dealing with claims from what Emma has told me (should the worst happen).

Like all insurance, it depends. It depends on what cover you want. It depends what's important to you. It depends on your driving and insurance records. It depends on other cars you may have and if you're doing multi-car. It depends on where you park your car. It depends on your average mileage. It can even depend on where you live and what you do. Different insurers have different risk appetites depending on many of the preceding.

Some people swear by Locktons, because they are the AMOC official insurer. Some people want the cheapest quote irrespective (which will not be Locktons). I'd use a specialist broker - specialist because many High Street brokers don't have access to the more specialist insurers

I should have added - all Insurance feels like a rip off until you actually need to claim and usually that’s when you start to appreciate that the service received ( or not ) is actually the definer of value for money.
If you know for a fact you will never claim then going for the cheapest makes perfect sense.
It’s also about trying to mitigate the hassle and stress should the worst happen.

Manning UK came up with the best deal for me, and their service is very good. Direct Line were the same price but wanted a working Tracker.

+1 here for Nowell & Richards. They do all my exotica and understand supercar insurance.

Ask for Jon - he’s really good

Recently been through this. I ended up staying with NFU, tried Locktons and other specialists but the difference was peanuts. Could of gone with a compare the market cheap quote, but wanted to make sure they would payout and use original parts and Aston approved repairers.

Have NFU changed their mind about Aston Martins again ?

A few years ago, several of us here (loyal NFU customers, with no claims) received renewal invitations showing the premium had suddenly doubled or trebled.

Clearly they did not want Aston Martins on their book of business. Perhaps a sequence of AM claims had occurred, or maybe they just thought owners of such expensive cars, ought to contribute towards all their farmers theft claims. £100,000 tractors disappearing before dawn.

They did not even recognise COVID. Kept the full annual premium, for the miniscule risk of me driving less than 200 miles that year. Cheeky people. I did not even bother to respond. Moved to Aviva and saved myself £100.

I don’t think it was just Astons, they did this with my 992 and I challenged it and got a much better quote. I have household with them as well and been a customer for several years, so get a discount I am sure you had as well. It’s not cheap but very similar to other specialists. I do about 8000 miles in a 2022 Vantage that is garaged and has a tracker.

Other than hearing about Admiral returning £25 when the policy was renewed did any / many other Insurers actually return any money to their customers post Covid I wonder ?

I was with Locktons who were Aviva 2022 -2023

I tried Aviva Direct and it doubled
then went back to Lockton and it was stupid money again
So much for not fleecing the renewal customer.

The best quote I got was from Churchill
the bike was with Caol Nash and again it doubled, then you couldn't cancel the renewal unless you phoned them .

Having the same experience here - insurance has almost doubled on the Aston. 50+ with 20+years NCB.

Sounds like all the renewals are going up no matter what so I'm now shopping around with a broker as it seems to be slim pickings anywhere else.

Is there rhyme or reason for these jumps? Sounds like some are not experiencing it too?

On my V12S the insurance last year was £1400 for 7500 miles. 70 this year, clean licence so can only assume they thought I lived in Beirut or similar.

Cost an additional £200 to up it to 12000 miles.

This year the cost for 12000 miles is the same whereas the cost for 7500 miles has reduced by £70 which was a surprise as I totally expected it to go up in price.

This is through ClassicLine.

Insurers now usually default to Automatic Renewal (do nothing and they retain a customer).

It is simple to instruct, Do Not Auto Renew (customer is in control).

Given the state of our potholed roads I think Insurance in Beirut or the Ukraine would probably be cheaper ?!

07 V8V with all mods declared. N400 upgrade to engine, side sills and wheels, sports back box, carbon front splitter and rear carbon diffuser (all fitted by AM main dealer by previous owner).

4000 miles per year, garaged. £280 with Admiral in a multi (2) car policy.

I guess it's not worth that much really in terms of modern cars so maybe that makes it cheap.
