Interesting, but another LS article with lots of " we will do this"

I guess now they are doing a DBS replacement? Im surprised they haven't mentioned the mid engine vanquish as a mclaren GT or F8 rival

Stroll hinted that the new range would include a new model “above GT” that stood alone in the market.
“We’ve created a new sector above GT,” he said. “A true high level of luxury with a high level of performance. Something new.”

'Above GT'
Could that be HU ?
One letter up - High Ultra.

'A true high level of luxury'
I am confused now. So 'High Level' is something new.
My corn flakes this morning had 'New' printed on the packet, even though the firm started making corn flakes in 1906.

More importantly, is the 'High Level' category of Luxury, above or below 'Ultra' ?

I certainly would not want an Utra Luxury car, if it was inferior to High Level Luxury and
I certainly would not want a High Level Luxury car, if it was inferior to Ultra Luxury.

As for an ordinary luxury car these days, surely no one stoops to such a basic level any more.

Sounds like a page from the Palmer playbook.

”The new Aston line-up sports car line up will include replacements for today’s Aston Martin DB11, Aston Martin Vantage and Aston Martin DBS models, and the quoted number of eight models includes different variants of this trio”

So 3 ‘new’ cars then, all in reality mid-life refreshes of existing models, each with ‘variants’

Maybe a return to the good old Cortina differentiation badges…? DB12 L, GL and….. with extra spotlights and vanity mirror, the DB12E - Jezza would be proud.

Except at least Andy Palmer set out 7 models in 7 years, and three of his were full new models on new platforms, with new powertrains, one was a major reskin with new transmission (DBSS). Even with outsourcing, AML couldn't handle 7 in 7, yet under Stroll's inspirational leadership they are going to do 8 new models in, what, four years?

Since his 8 includes variants I am not sure it’s that impressive or unrealistic. Presumably the DB12 will eventually come as a Volante as well as a coupe so that’s 2, the refreshed Vantage will have a roadster so that’s 4. Question is what are the other 4 ? Given both will have the V8 and not a a V12 then a lot of people think there will eventually be a tuned up V8 version as in the DBX707. If both models had that with open top options we are at 8 models. His new ‘beyond GT’ might just be a DB12 with tuned up engine and some other tweaks, ceramic brakes etc, if not then two versions of that puts us at 6 models and that implies there won’t be uprated versions of both the Vantage and DB12.

I very much doubt we will see 8 completely new models, even if they were capable of doing it - the imminent introduction of electric models means it would make no economic sense.

I am assuming the 'new' models are mid-life refreshes of the existing core model Coupes and Volantes/Roadsters.

We soon realised AP's '7 new models in 7 years then repeat' was not possible.
Perhaps his previous employer Nissan followed that 7 year strategy.
Certainly Mercedes-Benz have 7 year model runs. The E-Class and I think other main core models are replaced after exactly 7 years, usually with a refresh at 5 years. The replacements are staggered, so that the introductions are spaced.

To be able to do that, requires enormous sums of money and huge sales numbers to justify the strategy. Obviously car profits of each 7 year model, have to repeatedly be far more than the development costs.

Obviously impossible at Aston Martin.

Those four plus a replacement for the DBS in coupe and volante makes 6, Valhalla makes 7 and the mysterious HU makes 8. Perhaps the HU will be a four door super saloon. Or a DBS replacement Zagato styled shooting brake, in the style of the old Vanquish Zag SB. Who knows?

I can't see them doing another 4 door saloon, just not what the market really wants now.
Maybe a smaller SUV or something. As always likely variations of all the core models.
Or how knows, maybe he's full of it...
I had read the DB11 and DBSS would be replaced by a single model.

Yes, that's it.
AML have spoken before about model variations of the DBX.
LS is so proud of; "The DBX707, the first car developed under my leadership, continues to receive broad media acclaim and, with a growing number incredibly satisfied customers, is strengthening the DBX orderbook in our all major markets, as well as our overall financial performance.”

( Someone thinks that must deserve a knighthood. For services to ................. )

The DBX inline 6 hybrid is China only.
Could that be offered in other regions?
What other DBX models might be possible, DBX Coupe, DBX 7 seater, DBX F1 Medical Special Edition?
Seem to remember that they ruled out a long-wheelbase version.

As much as I'd prefer a v12.... I'd be ok with a next gen Vantage roadster with a inline 6- somewhere around 500 hp, hopefully a little lighter, and maybe a manual option.

I might get hate, but honestly the most fun I've driven in a LONG time was a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 manual. Feels light, great gear shift, almost like a go cart feel. Would love it if the new vantage is a very high end take on this formula.

8 new models does seem ambitious but as pointed out half of those will likely just be a convertible variation.

I’d absolutely love to see a longer wheelbase, maybe 7 seat, DBX. Rumour has it there is a DBX refresh coming out at the end of this year with updated tech.

The way I see it they will release:

- DB12
- DB12 volante
- new vantage
- new vantage roadster
- new vantage special edition
- new ultra GT
- new ultra GT volante
- electric car

As the post talks about sports/GT cars and not SUVs I will assume any DBX variants will be in addition to the above.

I can announce more new models at once than you, so there. - smile

2010 - The famous man for that was Dany Bahar at the Paris Motor Show.
6 new Lotus cars announced.
Don't think any of them were ever produced.

2018 - Geneva Motor Show. Andy Palmer announced about 6 new models (part of the IPO hype).
Five years later, we are still waiting for the Valhalla and Vanquish.

Perhaps 6 is an unlucky number, so maybe 8 will be more realistic.

Ref. DBX Volante. Think Land Rover introduced a convertible SUV. Don't know how good the sales are.

Land Rover produced the Evoque Convertible (its badged RR ). Sales disaster for JLR - lasted about 3 years IIRC . Good idea well executed but no one wanted it.

"DBX F1 Medical Special Edition?", absolutely brilliant! To support appropriate medical conditions of owners:
Botox
Implants
Teeth whitening
Tucks
Balding
Cataracts

It would be a massive loss for every unit sold but a DBX Volante would technically fill a niche not served by the competition and would help tick off one of the 8 models over promised by Lance Behar.

I had read the DB11 and DBSS would be replaced by a single model.
The DBSS should be a V12 engined, genuinely lightweight, version of the DB12, which should be V8 as standard, and of course there will be a Volante on each. That's four, basically on one chassis, and that chassis is an uprated version of the DB11, not that it needs much uprating. Doesn't bother me, I think the DB11 is sublime, hope they don't ruin it with ill considered stylistic flourishes. Don't think there is much wrong with the Vantage either, now people are beginning to get used to it. Add a V12 (stuff electric wokery and phoney climate cultism) and Volantes and that is eight, no problem at all. Don't go quietly? Don't go at all.

Not sure why they aren't saying 12 new models.

And still brilliant cars.
