Now being more of a Harry fan, this chap ain’t usually my cup of tea, though I do confess to occasionally checking out his musings. He seems to have something of a soft spot for AML products (well, some of them) and has long hinted he wants to drive an old 80’s V8 Vantage.

Someone has finally given him an old V8 to do a video on, it’s a late Oscar India with the 3 speed slush box…

Unsurprisingly, he found it slow, but looking at the video it seems much slower than even a standard V8 with a torqflite should be, I wonder if it’s maybe got ignition retard issues, or maybe something else?

Before I put the manual box in mine I did find it slow and I came to hate that old slusher, but it never felt this slow…

On the whole I thought it quite a fair review of one of the old soldiers. The workman’s positive comment through the window is exactly what happens all the time when you’re out in one of those lovely old things.

He’s not really my cup of tea either. The way he “sings” when he speaks is rather irritating imho. He is a relatively frequent poster on PH, but in the Automotive Vloggers forum in TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio……so be careful what you say just in case he finds us in here! In my experience most of the videos he has done on Aston Martins haven’t been very complimentary. He didn’t particularly like an original six speed manual V12 Vantage, so he’s off my Christmas card list for that fallacy alone! wink

ETA I’ve just rewatched his review and I’m still a little confused regarding some of his observations. Moans about the throttle response, and then says Sport mode ruins it. Oh well….I guess he’s better off sticking to Italy. wink

There has to be something seriously wrong with that engine. I still have the torqflite fitted, and there is no way that with foot flat to the floor it would behave like that. Kickdown is brutal and I can still hit 6s for 0-60mph which I know is not quick by modern standards but is a different league to the car he was testing. Apart from that though it was a fair review.

I thought it was a ok review, he says the engine is good, but not combined with the automatic, it then feels slow, but al in all it was 'ok' ? something like that, but to get it better then ok, you better get a manual, or make it a manual :-) I agree took ages to get it going hahah, its also no lightweight...

but the vantage so much more expensive...

then 'better' upgrade such car, manual and get some more grunt out the engine to start.

There is another theory, this being that CE/TD
Mike Loasby was having a bit of fun with MD Alan Curtis’ light aircraft ID G-BFOI

(the last bit is oscar india)

Perhaps very fortunate that Mike Loasby did not instead, decide to use the other two letters. - smile

In the aircraft world, it appears that registration marks might be reused.
G-BFOI is now a Bell helicopter.

EDIT - Sorry, did not get the UL joke.

The original registration date was 13th March 1978. Still on the same helicopter though. Most people I know don’t refer to helicopters as light aircraft, even though technically most are. Regarding UL. What is the favourite tagline of LS nowadays? I’ll leave that here as I deleted my previous reply.

I've never driven the auto, but the manual is quick enough and the low 5 sec 0-60 for the Vantage spec was verified by magazines in the day. Sounds like that car needs some work TBH.
Many didn't even have a manual choke!
