They announced their intention to make EVs over two years ago.

I’m surprised Chinese maker Geely aren’t involved in the EV side given their huge stake in the company.

This can only be a good thing, I think it's fairly clear where this is all going now, even if we don't like it.

Having a company like Lucid on board gives the brand a much better chance than using Geely IMO.

This is good news despite me (and I guess many others) not wanting to see an EV Aston.

The major concern is going to be reliability, if you take a look at the customer satisfaction surveys that have been released recently, all the EV cars rank bottom or very close to bottom for customer satisfaction, tech problems etc. Plus I have a few contacts that have gone the route of the Taycan and all of them (3 in total) all state the car would be great if they could keep it out of the dealership. One keeps his old diesel Q7 for longer journeys, the very car the Taycan was supposed to replace for him!

I think part of the problem with EV tech they want to release the latest tech piece to sell the bloody thing, but development timelines are just getting more and more pressured to get them out of the door. Fundamentally, the customer is the test bed for what goes wrong, the biggest flop has to be VWs lack of insight into what the customer actually wanted when it released the updated infotainment in the ID range and recent models.

I was listening to part of a program on Radio 4 earlier. I started part way through, so I don't know the context, but a caller phoned to say that his car (not an Aston) had adaptive cruise control, which saw some side roads and motorway junctions as hazards and slowed the car down. One particular junction was seen by the car as an obstruction, so the car came to an immediate halt from 60mph! He said he was lucky that there was nothing behind him at the time. Just imagine if he was just in front of a 40 tonne HGV!
The dealer garage said it was a software fault but as of yet they have been unable to rectify the problem.
Other callers were complaining about various issues with electric cars. I thought the main problem with BEVs centred around battery faults and poor range, but it seems that there are lots of issues around the various software technologies being put into modern cars, particularly BEVs.
I doubt any car manufacturer is immune to these problems, and if a manufacturer is using another company's technology then they will little to no control of these kind of glitches.
Let's all hope that Lucid is as good as we all think it is.

It was "You and yours", the R4 consumer programme. I'd not take many of the people who call in that seriously - call me a cynic but I regard anyone with suspicion who wants their "5 minutes" by phoning a call-in radio programme.

I thought Radio 4 had some decent programming. It looks like I need to retune back to Radio 2 then.

7000 cars a year of the type Aston Martin sell isn't struggling. They plan to stop losing money from mid 23' onwards and move towards profitability.

Add to that hundreds of millions in investment, I personally have a better feeling about the companies prospects than ever before. Lucid, not so sure what they're up to sales wise as I haven't really followed their progress too closely.

Agree, it feels as if this could be 1+1=3 if executed well and timely

Well, that is great news and this year too.

Being realistic, people have been waiting for that, since 15 January 1913.

Hopefully there will be a huge celebratory event that we can all enjoy.

Are you referring to each subsidiary company within the group ?

There’s only one AML on the stock market that I’m aware of.

Stroll said a while back that they could also use Geely tech. Lucid has the performance parts, but you need a lot of stuff for an EV.
