Should Stroll be Knighted ?

Not sure I’d agree, but what’s the consensus among the PH boys and girls ?

I posted the same link in the AML Stock Market Listing thread on Monday, and the limited responses on here would imply a fair degree of apathy to the question. There were similar calls for AP before the IPO.Not sure I’d agree, but what’s the consensus among the PH boys and girls ?

Can a Canadian receive a “proper” knighthood though? I may be wrong but I suspect he would only be allowed to use the letters after his name, not the title “Sir”. For someone so tied in with branding, that could be a problem!

If he hadn’t have asked for it my answer to the same question would still have been no as of today.
He has certainly made a difference to AML’s future prospects but still rather premature to discuss the battle as being “ won “.
Maybe if the sp gets into the £10+ bracket I may be more generous with a vote.

He's Welsh. Not sure how he would react being called a Brit, although Wales is in the United Kingdom...I can think of far more worthy people…..

As for Mr. Stroll, if the Autocar article does indeed contain an exact quote, I would argue his attitude is an excellent reason not to knight him...

An honour is bestowed.
A respectable Aston Martin driving British gentleman or lady, would certainly never even consider asking to be given an honour.
That is a matter for others to judge.
"For work I've done."
'turned the firm around'
That is a laugh.
2019 loss = £ 120 million.
2022 loss = £ 495 million.
I once knew another Canadian. He is a Baron.
Anyway, that is his first name.
His second name is probably Pompus.
He turned a business around and it became quite hot. Very cross customers.

Maybe being Canadian he has yet to grasp that an individual is not supposed to ask for such stuff, or perhaps more likely just doesn’t care or doesn’t think those limey f***s care about such pleasantries anymore. Can we blame him, looking at the antics of Boris ?
What are his chances? Well, given history, if he stays the course and leaves the company in better shape than when he found it, if he was a Brit it looks about even on the face of it looking at two high profile owners who fit that criteria: David Brown got one, Victor Gauntlett did not, though Guantlett did have some other sort of gong IIRC.
But, Stroll is Canadian, so let’s think of other North Americans who did genuinely came to the rescue of the company. In the 70’s, this was Peter Sprague, who together with his partners never did get the recognition they deserved for what they did to keep the company going before Gauntlett came along in the 80’s and got Bond back behind the wheel and Walter Hayes onboard. Vantage? Lagonda? Oscar India, Bulldog concept? - IIRC these were all originally green lit and bankrolled by a core team of American/Canadian Peter Sprague & George Minden respectively and Brit Alan Curtis. These were the cars that stayed in production until the late 80s.
If Stroll wants to pitch himself for a knighthood, then I’d argue Peter Sprague should get one first, if such things are even possible for non-brits. He’s actually still alive and in business, his story of how he got involved is fascinating..

Quote from the Autocar article referenced above:
He points to evidence of the success the brand is having by being able to increase the prices of its cars and the margins. The former has seen the average sale price of an Aston rise from £157,000 in 2020 to an expected £223,000 in 2023, and the margin of the car from 18% to 37% in the same period. The goal for future cars is 40%.
Anyone can increase the price of a product and thereby increase the margins, assuming the production costs remain the same. But you then need sufficient customers at the new prices so that the overall business makes money. I don't see any evidence of the second and most important part yet.
For Stroll to be even considered for a knighthood he should return the company to profitability - otherwise it's just another honours smash-and-grab. He could start by paying the business for the use of the company brand on his F1 team.

I'd set the bar for 'Sir Stroll' at getting Aston Martin to make a genuine profit (not a made-up one) for 10 years.
So far he's not off the starting line IMHO. Knighthoods need to be hard to get, like VCs. But as someone alluded to above, they've been rather devalued by awarding them for such achievements as 'running very fast in a straight line'.

Personally I think he will be out way before that. I suspect he will ultimately just keep the F1 side of things if he can. As for knighthoods there is a certain well known ex Manchester United/England footballer who rumour has it was convinced he was getting one. Didn’t quite work out as he had hoped after he was caught out by emails he had sent ranting about it. Self entitlement/promotion in these matters generally does not pay off. As for AML.L I suspect LS/YT will continue to offload their holdings should the SP continue to rise. Especially if they have another RI planned. We shall see.

Absolutely not ,especially after "asking" for one if the title of that article is true .

Amazed at the ire ITT focused on genuine world beaters (gold medalists) whilst ignoring the thousands of gongs handed out to career civil servants, political party donors, corrupt business leaders, lobbyists and the like.Gongs have been handed out to far too many in recent years .
