Been with Lockton for 4 years but they've jacked up their renewal up by 40% and they require me to enable my tracker (which costs a further £228) making the all in cost >£650 more than previous years.

They told me many of their clients have had Ferraris and RRs stolen off the streets of central London. I've got a 10y.o. DB9 stored underground in SW London - not quite the same thing (!).

Perfect driving record, no claims, speeding, accidents etc. Any recommendations?

Sorry, but I suspect you will see this across the board.

Essex police found 2 AMs not long back that had been stolen, and with the ongoing epidemic in London regarding Ferrari thefts I suspect their will be a loading being applied for safety.

I’ve been looking for a newish Vantage recently and found a nice 68 plate car at grange. Insurance wasn’t really a consideration before but just been quoted 400% increase over my M4 competition.

Making me reevaluate to be honest!

Most of the thefts around my way have been JLR product, mainly Range Rovers. There have been some BMWs and Fords too, with Kuga and Fiesta seeming to be quite vulnerable. But as we all know the cars that are easy to pinch are by and large keyless, although there are some reports of Toyota/Lexus systems being hacked by plug in devices near the front wheel arch. I guess my point is that only AMs from DB11 onwards are likely to be affected by this current trend, so why the premium for a ten year old DB9 stored securely underground should be adversely affected is a bit surprising. I guess it’s just because they can. Fwiw I’ve insured mine with Churchill and despite a small increase this year, it’s still much lower than Aviva used to be. They flatly refused to quote me two years ago. Mine is always garaged and is fitted with a AM Vodafone/CobraTrak tracker, but it is a bit rough around here.

Toyota/Lexus/Alfa Romeo - sadly the method used is fundamentally "possible" on a number on a cars it is just a case of how close to the surface are the relevant canbus wires. For Toyota they made the light connections easily accessible and for AR removing the radar sensor allows access. The devices just overload the network with messages making other modules fall silent and jumping from one area of the network to the other via gateways.

As for second century cars like DB11/Vantage and DBSS then the risk of a key being programmed is low due to it using Mercedes FSB4 platform which requires secure connection to Mercedes servers and everything is monitored. It is fundamentally one of the reasons that FSB4 has not been cracked like so many others.

Additionally for owners of second century cars double clicking the lock button twice will make the car flash six times and disable keless entry until unlocked (under battery saving in the owners manual).

This does not mean relay attacks and sadly if found the canbus hack styles would not work though.

The loading is more like brand and value in honesty and the fact that these tea leaves are stealing Ferraris of only a certain period then whilst we may know "different" it is much easier and safer to have a blanket policy linked to brand and vehicle value to protect the business than it is to go model to model or model to model year.

The same issue is fundamentally happening with the Range Rover issue the previous gen is the one being stolen, but the insurers have lost so much faith in their security that newer models are being impacted as well. I presume for some insurers they are simply extending that thinking.

And to kind of put more numbers to the RR issue 430 of them being stolen a month, one insurer having losses of £600k a month due to that model alone is going to have an impact, let alone having £250k+ cars x40 go missing.

BM wise I think the steering wheel theft issue is a far bigger issue. Having now seen cars even with steering locks having them ripped off and meaning a new steering wheel and steering switch (SZL) in less than 20 seconds is something else.

Vantage theft is low (depending on area) and I am ware of only one stolen last year that was found unharmed next day.

Imo look at firstpoint or a broker.
