MOT advisories
Discussion
Just had the DB9 MOT done and have seen -
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases Blow at cat joints
Anybody else had this issue and if so was a cheap or expensive fix?
Annoying as bought the car last year and only done 2k miles since last MOT

Sounds like a conventional motor car fault, not anything Aston Martin specific.
Cheap or expensive ?
Aston Martin main dealers of course have huge ongoing overheads and the average new sale in August by each UK dealer, was just 1 car.
If less than one year since purchase and with Timeless warranty, would it be a free fix ?
As Jon says, it’s just an exhaust blow.
I think DB9 have stainless exhausts just as the Vantage. Thus it’s unlikely to be corrosion.
The fix might be as simple as someone nipping up a bolt with a spanner. More likely to need the two sections separating, cleaning and reassembling with fresh exhaust paste. An hours labour for a decent garage, but all garages hate small jobs as it’s the best part of an hour of time to book a car in get it on the stand, and prepare to work in it, then drop it down, clean up and book it out. It’s why you might be charged 2 hours labour.
It might be a good idea to wait until you need something else doing (you will), then ask them to sort the exhaust blow out at the same time.

It was a clamp on my db9, the exhaust and the clamp are stailess but the bolt isnt.
It just corroded through and let the clamp come loose, i just removed the remnants of the old bolt and fitted a new one , tightened it up,
Sounds like a cheap repair which is good if that’s the case with mine!It just corroded through and let the clamp come loose, i just removed the remnants of the old bolt and fitted a new one , tightened it up,
Thanks
