Looking at purchasing a V12V after 10 years away
Discussion
Hi Folks,
I sold my manual V12V about 10 years ago and have always hankered after another one and I'm now starting the process of looking.
When I had mine there were a number of issues with paint blisters, leaking rear lights and other problems. I remember having all my carbon discs replaced due to corrosion of the fixing bolts, all done under warranty.
I'm probably looking to get another manual 2009 / 2010 and would like to leverage the experience here to understand what the major issues are that I need to look out for now that these cars are 13/14 years old.
TIA,
Richard

The issues that you have already stated are probably still the main ones to look out for. If the car hasn’t been tracked and chemical wheel cleaners haven’t been used the carbon ceramic brakes should still be in fine fettle, even on the very early cars. If there is any doubt ask the seller if it would be possible to get the discs removed and weighed beforehand. This is probably only going to be feasible with a car being offered for sale at an AM MD or AM Independent though. Paint and rear light seals are problems on every Gaydon Vantage irrespective of which model. There aren’t too many original six speed V12 cars available right now but imho overall condition is the main thing to check. Good luck with your search. ETA, it may be worth getting the car checked for possible misfires, plus an inspection of the primary cats too.

This one (no affiliation) looks interesting and great value.

I guess at the time of writing I thought earlier cars would be cheaper, but having now done some more homework, condition and mileage seem to be the arbiters , not age. Which makes sense.
I’m looking at 3 more tomorrow , possibly 4
Exactly yeah. I’m looking at 3 more tomorrow , possibly 4
Good luck with your search. Mileage is king

Thanks Bentley, thats good to know. It's only just up the road from me so I'm planning to go see it at the weekend.
I'm not sure about the colour, but they often look better in the flesh.
Did your friend have it from new?
Did you go and see this car? I was thinking it looked a good deal and still seems to be on sale I'm not sure about the colour, but they often look better in the flesh.

Appreciate its high mileage so not to all tastes but personally I prefer cars that have been driven and looked after as opposed to sat doing nothing

That car was owned by a friend of mine and was well looked after when he had it. Great colour Lightning Silver but I am biased.
Don’t suppose that was Drew by any chance was it? I don’t know him but having spoke to the seller he told me one guy called Drew put the majority of the miles on this car. And I agree it does seem to have been well looked after Edited by bentley01 on Friday 6th October 07:22
Does anyone know anything else about this cars history? It checks out all ok so I think it’s the mileage putting most off, which personally isn’t a concern as condition and history all checks out as far as I can tell unless anyone knows differently?
It looks and sounds like a good car. Assuming you have an inspection and go in with eyes open it should be ok.
At that mileage I’d imagine it will need brakes soon (probably in the next 10-20k) and possibly a subframe (assuming it’s been driven year round). These aren’t cheap, but will land you with a special (and sorted) car which will still be half the price of a manual S.

When I viewed the car I thought it was in pretty good shape for its age/mileage. I didn’t like the after market exhaust, too noisy for me.
I’ve viewed 6 V12s so far.. none of them have ticked all the boxes, but I’m sure I’ll find what I’m looking for eventually.
Good luck with your search..

As far as I can tell the brake pads have never been changed and the discs still feel and look smooth and shiny but agreed to factor in a pad change soon.
And also agreed on the back box, not the best tone, but I personally like the loudness and can always be changed.
I’ll come clean. I’ve bought it and hopefully pick it up in the next week or so!
Having recently owned 650s and R8 V10+ I wanted something more old school and manual, abit like my old 911 CSR but with more power. I’m hoping this will tick all the boxes and I’ve never owned as Aston so looking forward to that too.
Heart rather than head decision but at a chunk off the advertised price I think it’s a bit of bargain!
