I just started seeing the "Alarm System needs servicing" warning. It seemed intermittent at first and I can cancel it with the "read" button. I replaced the key fob batteries and, apart from the warning light on the instrument cluster, the car locks/unlocks and sounds the warning horn okay. But given the age of my car, I'm guessing the alarm assembly battery is probably bad and I'll need to either replace the battery or the whole assembly. My car is equipped with the upgraded security inclination type. I understand the assembly is back near the boot on the left side of the car.

Question 1: Is there a simple fix to just replace the battery?

Question 2: If not, will the Volvo part YWK 500060 K9 P1 Siren Control Module work or do I have to purchase the OEM part 4G-43-37-10246?

Question 3: Is this a labour intensive operation at the dealership or can it be done DIY or at an independent shop?

Any advise or help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I’ve not seen or heard of that particular error message before, I have twice (in 6 years) seen ‘Emission system service required’ message. That too could be reset with the read button, but came back on when the car was restarted.

On both occasions I plugged a cheap code reader into the OBD socket under the dashboard and reset the ‘fault’. If that didn’t clear the it, I’d be looking for a main dealer or specialist as fault finding on a modern CAN bus system is a mystery to me.

I cannot answer your questions, but all that I know from reading this AM forum, is that when the alarm battery starts to fail, all sorts of other electrical gremlins occur.

The unit is an easy swop, not the internal battery. There are threads on here. Don't know if the Volvo, Ford or JLR part is a substitute. Anyone tried?

I did a step by step guide on this recently https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

When you pull your unit out you'll see the part number on it. Ebay it, you'll find loads from different cars.
