Does anyone use anything other than Mobil1 0w40 in there DB9? Oil needs changing soon, just interested in your opinions on this subject.

On my DB11 V12 which needs 0W-20 I am using Total Quartz. I believe TQ also has either a 0W-40 or 5W-40 for V8s and the 6L V12. Not sure how long AM has had a marketing agreement with TQ.

I wouldn't have any issues using Mobil 1 probably the Euro formula.

Aston Martin do seem to switch their recommendations between oil companies.

When I bought my Vantage, AML said use Castrol Edge.
Then after a couple of years, it was Mobil.
Now you mention Total.

It appears therefore the grade is the main criteria, then secondly, buy from one of the well known oil companies.

It is pretty well known that car manufacturers strike exclusive deals with suppliers like oil, lubricants, tires, batteries, etc.

The deal usually gives the manufacturer some advantage such as free or reduced costs to factory fill engines with initial oil, then the manufacturer only recommends that one brand and refuses to test or endorse other brands.

I researched and found out AM recommends Total Quartz for the DB11 circa cars. The Total Quartz containers are even marked as such. TQ, BTW, is a French oil company...difficult to find in the US.

I will post a pic of one of the containers I have for my next oil change, albeit the image will appear sideways and upsidedown (can't figure this out on PH).

THe back of the TQ container label specifies my engine directly.

Try rotating your image before posting to PH.

If using an Android tablet,
Go to Gallery.
Open the image.
Tap the image to display editing options at the foot of the page.
The left icon provides rotation.

Can do it in a similar way with Windows Paint on a PC.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually tried that on the first image. I saved it from an Iphone to a laptop, rotated it 90* previewed it, deleted it, rotated it again, previewed it, etc. No matter how I edit it, the first image always posts 90* anti-clockwise. Same with the second one. Yesterday I spent 30 minutes just trying to post two images. This is the only forum out of a dozen in which I participate with this issue and it happens, randomly, every time I post images here.

Yes, this is all most peculiar.

Of the two photos below, I rotated the top one 180° (should appear upside down) and the lower one 90° (should be on its side), whereas both post on PH the correct way up.

Mystery.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for validating. I am relieved it is not just me. I even did a query on PH trying to find info, but in cases where others have questioned how to get the image upright, PH basically answered that it was not anything to do with PH.

Right way

Sideways

Upside down

Just rotated in Paint then saved each with a new file name. I think if you just rotate in some graphics apps it rotates the image you see and remembers that view, but doesn't modify the file, so when you upload it to another app it renders it in the original orientation.

I could, of course, be talking bks, which wouldn't be unusual

Now back to the slippery stuff
