V8 vantage Rear Disk Corrosion
Discussion
I wonder if anyone else has experienced surface corrosion of rear and to a certain extent the front disk brake hubs on their V8 Vantage.
I have a 2018 V8 Vantage AMR and have been told their was a manufacturing defect due to thickness of corrosion coating applied through a tier 1 supplier and that Aston recognised this and corrected through warranty…..
Am not sure if that statement is true or if anyone has any advice. The disks are perfectly fine in operation but look horrible with surface rust….
Thanks all

I haven't heard of this before but you have now made me want to check my own AMR! So did Aston fix this for you under your normal warranty or through manufacturing defect?I have a 2018 V8 Vantage AMR and have been told their was a manufacturing defect due to thickness of corrosion coating applied through a tier 1 supplier and that Aston recognised this and corrected through warranty…..

I haven’t approached them yet as only recently purchased the vehicle. I have a friend who works in Aston manufacturing and I have reached out to him initially, however the person who raised the issue to me and indicated Aston acknowledged a problem is a guy who runs an independent service centre.
Will let you know as I’m going to push hard for this as I am acutely aware of manufacturing warranty policies and procedures as I work for JLR manufacturing…..

As you don´t bother to put up a photo (typical for this forum), I won´t spend time digging out mine. Yes, I had slight corrosion on the rear brake disc hubs (outer edges) VERY early on with extremely low mileage. I had bought my 17MY V8 Vantage S new and to my disappointment my servicing main dealer declined any warranty case right from the outset. I had no other choice then to get them repainted at my cost. Since then Bilt Hamber atom mac (best product ever) keeps the rust at bay and thorough blow drying after washing is mandatory.Good luck, if you honestly think any main dealer could be bothered to file a warranty request after so many years on a consumable part.
Just remove the discs, or whenever you replace them, clean off any corrosion, media blasting ideally, then paint them with a high temperature paint such as VHT Sperex around the bell and the outside edges. I also puff some paint inside the vents too. It doesnt matter if the braking surface gets some overspray as that will come off almost immediately you drive the car. I then bake them in the oven for an hour or so at 150 to 180C.
This method can last a few years of use.
