Not saying for certain, however, the engine might not deal well with the iridium tips and could be why the heavier tipped platinums are used.
Case in point - The LS (LS3) engines used in Chevrolet (Corvettes in my case), ate iridium tips clear off the plugs. Here too, engine specced a non iridium tip plug. Some (like me) tried them...no joy.
Here is an example of one plug I pulled from an LS3, compared to a new plug. These had about 10K miles. There were two others in the series like this one. Once the tip is gone, gap immediately increases from .040" to .080".
