Really enjoying the DB11 V12 with the AMR flash. However I’m finding the spits/crackles on downshifts in Sport/Sport+ a bit … dare I say chavvy. Anyone knows whether or how these could be software deleted, at least in Sport mode?

Hi,

Thought I could provide some insight here, albeit I have no capability of accessing data tables in the AM engine management system.

The "spits/crackles" on the downshift in sports and + are built into the data tables in the tune and only a tuner with access to these tables can undo this. These tables (as with all manufacturers) are considered intellectual property and are not accessible outside of company engineering and that includes even field/dealer technicians. Independent tuners can access these tables using hack SW.

I feel as you do and do not like these gurgles and backfires when in sports and + modes on my DB11 V12 even without the AMR upgrade.

I was an independent tuner for 12 years, using hack SW to access EMS data tables on many performance cars, however, stopped about 3/4 years ago now. These sounds can be manipulated with how the fueling table is setup in what is called DFCO (deceleration, fuel cutoff). In the case of this platform and when in normal drive mode (not sport or +) DFCO is set to zero, so fuel supply is cutoff completely. In sport or +, a small percentage of fuel continues in deceleration where the commanded throttle is 0%. In this particular case, the actual throttle is some % more than zero, and there is also a small ignition advance component that changes in sport and + vs normal.

So, to summarize and simplify, these sounds are programmed in and only a tuner with hack SW can change it. Dealer technicians cannot access these tables, nor are there any variations to AMR SW. AMR makes these sounds even more aggressive than the stock DB11 V12 tune which, apparently, most owners seem to prefer.

Hope this helps...

That is a fantastic explanation, I appreciate you taking the time to write it out.

I am also a bit averse to all the extra sounds in Sport and +. Can't we just get the performance increase without trying to fake sound like a Lambo...

What is the trick to get spits and crackles on downshifts? I have a V12 DB11 (non AMR tune) and I have driven it on occasion around town in Sports mode and have never had a spit or crackle on a downshift. Perhaps because I'm not using the flappy paddles?

Perhaps they mean on the over run, rather than down shift? The pops and bangs on my '11 Virage are epic if I use the paddles to drop the gearbox into second gear as I slow down for traffic lights.

I would be interested to know if this is actually causing catalyst damage though as I assume unburnt fuel is making its way into the exhaust to make the noise?
