Ctek Recond Mode
Discussion
Has anyone used the recond mode that some Ctek smart chargers have on their Astons battery without issue?
I recently had an “Emergency Brake Assist Failure” warning message come up on the dash. Fortunately an overnight charge on my aging Ctek MXS 3.6 topped the battery up via the charging port in the boot and all is well with my car (2009 Vantage)
I was looking at the new range of Cteks and many have a recond mode that Ctek suggest using once or twice a year to “maximise lifetime and capacity” of the battery, which seems a useful feature.
Cteks website states that in this mode it supplies 15.8V to the battery.
Is this voltage likely to upset or damage any of the modules in our cars, obviously Ctek don’t think so.
Would you use it on your car with the battery still in the car, would you disconnect the battery, or would you not use it at all?

I used the recond mode on my CTek 5 a couple of years ago. It was on a small race battery for my Westfield. It resurrected it for a summer season, but it didn t survive the following winter, so I replaced it.
Recond mode is designed to promote gassing within the battery to mix up the acid, and it’s only for 30 mins to 4 hours
In your position, I’d just take it for a long drive…

I had this error message on my V8V and it was not low voltage from the battery but a transducer switch on the back of the brake pedal. It came up every 5 drives. The switch was replaced at a specialist and I have not seen the error again… I would plug in a diagnostic also as that will tell you if it is something else eg (wheel sensors) are causing the problem
