Anyone else impressed by DB12 ride quality?!
Discussion
Hi all - took delivery of a new malachite green DB12 Volante about two months ago now.
I feel there s a lot of people highlighting minor issues (mainly software related) and I thought I’d just say that I think the car is absolutely incredible.
I own a DB9 manual Volante and a 911 Targa 4S but the DB12 is (for me) by far the best combination of looks, class, performance and theatre that I’ve come across in ANY car - and I’ve been in many as a passenger costing up to 10 times more than a new DB12.
Perhaps boringly, I think the most impressive single attribute of the car that I wasn t expecting is the ride comfort and damping - it’s more comfortable over potholes and road imperfections (I live in the UK countryside, roads are awful) than my Range Rover Sport - really amazed by it.
I do understand the frustration many have had with this car - I ve been lucky so far - only small, very minor infotainment issues and rear windows which refuse to go up first time when putting hood up using the key fob.
However I do think once these are ironed out, it’s an extraordinary machine and possibly one of the all-time great Astons!

That's good to hear. As you say ride comfort is sadly far down in the list of such desirables as 'How many iPhones can I connect?' - but affects the enjoyment for every inch you drive.
Couldn’t agree more - as long as I can occasionally play some music wirelessly (for the boring roads!) and Google maps pops up when I need it, that’s all the infotainment I need in a sports car!Beckson said:
how is db12's ride vs db11 ?
i have heard some reviews saying it's on the stiff side for a gt. i've always thought the db11 rode well, but my db12 test drive was on very very smooth pavement, so hard to really say.
It really is extraordinary - it’s not at all stiff in GTi have heard some reviews saying it's on the stiff side for a gt. i've always thought the db11 rode well, but my db12 test drive was on very very smooth pavement, so hard to really say.
Mode - really well-damped and you seem to glide over imperfections in the road. I’ve never driven the DB11 so can’t compare but the new shocks are supposed to have “5 times the bandwidth” than the 11’s ones.
It’s definitely the stand-out difference compared to my DB9 and way more comfortable than the 911 - really impressed with it.
Week into mine and loving it. Came out of a 72 plate Vantage and the ride quality is a massive improvement. Software is a bit buggy and have had to restart it a few times but an amazing car. I have come to understand Astons are a bit high maintenance especially in comparison to a 911 however the uniqueness and feel good is worth it!

Yep, completely agree. I was fortunate enough to get a test drive with HWM in the coupe (I'm 41 but nowhere near able to afford one of these, need some careers advice Green9!) and I was amazed at the ride quality and, really boring point but I think relevant in a modern large GT, the turning circle is insane given it does not have rear-wheel steer.
However, with two growing children I will have to stick to my Rapide S, even if I could afford a DB12... configurator is still fun though

Good point about turning circle Bluebottle - I hadn’t really noticed until you pointed it out! However, with two growing children I will have to stick to my Rapide S, even if I could afford a DB12... configurator is still fun though

I don’t think too much careers advice is required - you have one of my favourite VH Astons to take the kids to school in…lucky kids!
Agree, I've just taken delivery of my second one, after trading volante for a coupe.
had the same issues with windows on my volante and the key thing has carried through to coupe! (Quickest way to locate is just to press door open button on fob)
Nothing too major though, and overall very happy. I test drove the last DBS, and the traction on DB12 is also a mile ahead.
Aston is not perfect, but the truth is that most new cars have issues, from whichever manufacturer.
