Part identification
Discussion
Hi everyone. I removed the headlight from my 2012 V12 Vantage and I found the two parts shown in the photo on the floor afterwards. My GUESS is that they re from the air filter box assembly, but it s not entirely clear where. I m hoping that someone can help and I m posting on here as it could feasibly be a common part across V12 engines from the same era.
In summary, they are (photo below):
1. A rubber O-ring, about 10cm in diameter, which could fit one of the air filter box connections.
2. A smaller plastic part, about 3cm in diameter (including the arms ), with what could be a screw thread in the centre (internal diameter about 1cm).
If anyone has any ideas what they are (as they both need replacing) and where they go, I d be most grateful!
With thanks,
Stuart

First one is an O-ring from the airbox as you thought.
The second is the front mount off your headlight that has broken off, have a look and see if the front of the headlight is slightly loose, if not it may have been fixed previously, you can but replacement 3D printed mounts from Ebay.

To echo John’s comment, thank you Paul - and thank you for the link to the replacement. I think that there’s just about enough of the original part to make it usable, so I’ve glued it back on. If it doesn’t work, I can buy a new part. Thanks again.

Oh, my goodness. I checked the bag of parts I’d collected and found the bolt plus the brass insert to the broken part still on it. What I think happened was that the brass insert had become sufficiently stuck to the bolt to make the plastic mounting on the headlight the weakest part of the system, so it broke when I turned the bolt. I’ve put Plus Gas on the bolt and insert and will hopefully separate those over the weekend and put the brass insert back into the headlight mounting. A nice finding.
Thanks for the pointers, everyone.

As an update, the o-ring fits into a recess on the air intake pipe that connects to the air filter box. A 80mm (internal diameter) 2.4mm thick nitrile replacement from Amazon seems to have worked OK. I’ve now reinstalled the headlight, which took me most of the day. Now just to get rid of the ‘check engine’ light that appeared after I drove the car a short distance with the various electrical disconnections that were needed…
