Afternoon all,

As a result of an unexpected stay in hospital before Christmas, I have been told I am unable to drive any vehicle for 6 months. As a result of this visit, the trickle charger that kept the car charged up outside on my drive seems to be not working now, as I cannot get the vehicle started. The remote key fob does not work, so access into the car is via the key instead into the door lock. I have changed the key fob battery, but still nothing. I guess my next step is to get the boot open via the manual release lever located behind the driver side seat, which I know is a bit tricky. The trickle charger is in the boot and plugged into the cigarette type outlet near to the tyre inflator. The main battery was replaced by the previous owner back in April 2024 incidentally.

Just need some advice on what to do next, so that I can get the car started again.

Many thanks, as always in advance.

My so called trickle charger malfunctioned and killed the battery. Open the trunk and charge or replace the battery.

I'd start by checking battery voltage - it's behind the driver's seat, not in the boot.

The power socket in the boot is notorious for having iffy contact with anything plugged into it.

I’d connect the trickle charger to the jump start point in the engine bay

Thanks all for these suggestions, which I will try and work through.

Managed to get into the car and got the boot open by plugging a jump starter onto the marked points in the engine bay. Battery is now being charged up. Will get the battery checked next time the car is in. In the meantime will keep the vehicle on trickle charge.

I'm sure you meant "battery conditioner" rather than "trickle charger" but, if you didn't, leaving it on a real, low current trickle charger will kill the battery

Thanks LTP, I did mean battery conditioner.
