A little help with a decidedly First World issue, if anyone knows (and I realise the title may be misleading but is hopefully "click-baity" enough to garner interest).

In my 2015 Vantage with what I call the "Gen 2" waterfall and Garmin nav, I mainly listen to music off the USB, which works pretty well, all in all. However, the system seems to have one quirk that defies understanding - or at least mine. But then, as a mechanical engineer, I still think electronics are akin to voodoo.

Take today. I hadn't driven the car since before the New Year, so decided that coffee at The Hill was called for. I started the car, turned on the entertainment system (I turned it off so I could hear the PDC beeps when reversing into the garage) and the system sprang to life on exactly the track it was last playing in December. En route I stopped to buy a paper, got back to the car, started it and the USB had reverted to the first track on the first album. I reset it to an album further down the alphabetical list, arrived at The Hill, turned off the entertainment so I could hear the beeps, had a coffee or two and, when I started the car to come home, turned on the entertainment and it had, once more, reverted to Track 1 of Album 1.

Anyone who understands these things have any idea why the memory of what the current USB track is seems so volatile and inconsistent? It doesn't seem to correspond to anything in particular: if the ICE is switched off before "key off"; if it's left playing until the car is shut down on the key; the length of time the car is off for.
