Hi all, does anyone know if you can get an extension for a trickle charger? We are parking two cars in our garage and the Aston is too far back for the lead to reach it.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated

I’m obviously not familiar with you garage layout, but it might be beneficial to add another socket into the garage ring main, or add a spurred socket.

Thanks - would be better but not possible. The link you have wouldn’t work as the trickle to my DB12 is a round one under the rear boot

Do you have the CTEK MXS 5.0 trickle charger or something else?

Why not just use a normal power extension cord for the ctek?

you can get an extension cord or cut the wires and extend them with similar gauge wires if you know how to solder and use heat shrink.

I use this with a CTEK charger and my DB12 and the round magnetic attachment.

If your charger has SAE connectors to add the accessories (plugs, clips, etc) then you can get 1.8m or 4.6m extension leads from Optimate here (click) that can handle 6A. I have a couple of Optimate 6's, both with a 4.6m extension.

In fact I think there were some "official" Aston Martin conditioners that were actually made by Optimate and based on the Optimate 6 - you can tell by the design of the front panel lights as they just branded the conditioner.

This is what I use.

Alternatively have a long extension lead to the charger.

Both CTEK and Optimate sell the various extension leads ( Amazon is usually your friend ) or the additional extension lead first.
On both above their recommendation is only to use one such extension lead though.

Word of warning on the round magnetic attachment - mine was fitted less than a year ago and recently I noticed it doesn't always make a connection. Keep it clean and make sure the lights on the charger are working as expected.

I have noticed this, it was worse on my Vantage as that car connecter wasn't as well shielded from the elements as the DB12.

Agree here. I do not use the magnetic connector as there have been stories from owners of AMs and Bentleys that had their cars on maintainers, or so they thought, then found dead batteries BC the magnetic connection was weak or lost.

The round magnetic connector fitted to the Astons and Bentleys is a Rosenberger product. The magnetic connector base requires full connection before power can flow, to avoid arcing. If dirty contacts exist, then the system does not allow power to flow.

It needs the Rosenberger spring loaded weather cap to weatherproof. Why the OEM car manufacturer didn't specify the spring loaded cap, and then placed the magnetic connector base in the dirtiest part of the vehicle is beyond odd, in my view.

I have had the magnetic connector, with spring loaded cap, on the side of the front number plate plinth of my Vantage for several years now - works like a charm. Used every week. The connector is always kept pristine by the cover, and so connectivity assured.

The Rosenberger website says the cover is optional, shows a picture of a car without it (but does recommend it) and claims the external port connector itself is rated as IP 6k9k.

One of their online documents about outdoor use here also says you should wipe the connector with a cloth after use and spray it with a contact cleaner every one to two months
