Hi, I have a 2014 Vantage N430 (same engine as Vantage S). I want it a bit louder but now overly loud on long journeys.
From what I’ve heard changing the manifolds makes it a lot louder which would be too much.
If there much increase in noise by changing the secondary cats to either replacement pipes or sports cats? Does it increase the noise noticeably but still quiet ish when the valves are closed on the motorway?
Thanks!

You could plug up the vacuum pipes on the exhaust valves just under the rear bumper so they are always open,

Not too loud but louder than normal at no cost.

You could try this: https://www.cccharger.co.uk/product-page/exhaust-r...

I had one in the DB9 and it worked well. And also costs buttons and you can fit and remove it yourself.

My V12 Vantage has Quicksilver secondary cat replacements and Quicksilver Sports (or maybe Supersports) back box, which doesn’t sound particularly loud to me, so I’d suggest listening to your desired setup before buying, if at all possible. Hope you get what you’re after.

My Vantage S has Bamford Rose manifolds & cats, the standard valved Vantage S back box and I have manual control of the valves (via my Sport button).

Valves open, it is loud but wonderful. Valves closed it is very civilised and perfectly quiet at motorway speeds.

I have a 2014 V8 Vantage SP10 so very similar to your N430.
I replaced the secondary cats with Larini de-cat pipes.
I would recommend this if you want a volume increase when “on it”, while still being able to cruise at any speed without it being too much.
You can also DIY this job with basic tools. I managed it, so really isn’t difficult biglaugh

Not wanting to be one of those boring know-it-alls on the internet, but technically any UK car with this done could fail its M.O.T.

I just fit secondary decats on my 4.7 and a CCcharger remote, it was the perfect blend of noise and not too noisy on the motorway when below 4K revs with valves closed.

I have had a couple of sets of decat pipes from https://www.rpmotorworks.co.uk/ great quality and VFM, it was one of the first mods i did when I traded in for a V12VS a couple of years ago smile

60-90 mins labour to fit at a trusted local garage, no need to be paying a main dealer over a grand for pipes/fitting

Subsequently sold the old 4.7 decat pipes on ebay for a couple of hundred quid, might be worth a look on there or Aston forums for some.

Nope, this has no bearing on the MOT. I did this 6 years ago and it has passed every MOT since.
All emissions testing has been fine.

Just because your tester hasn't read the guidance or hasn't noticed doesn't mean it has no bearing. See image

I guess I’ve just been lucky for the last 6 years then.
Also, Larini confirmed this would have no issue with MOT emissions testing prior to purchase. I did ask.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for future years.

My Vantages have been passing MOTs since 2012 with secondary decat. You can have the decat pipes supplied and fitted by Aston main dealers, the official AMR decat pipes are made by Quicksilver and reassuringly expensive for a pair of straight through stainless pipes. Some AMR models such as Vantage GT8 are not fitted with the secondary cats from new.

Then the GT8 would have been homologated without the secondary cats.

Don't shoot the messenger - you can read the guidance as well as I can, and if you happen to hit a tester that knows the standard Vantage of a particular year had 4 cats from the manufacturer and he's having a bad day you could get a major. Then you'd be arguing with him about all of the points you raise.

At no point have I said that you will fail - I said could and provided evidence as to why. If you've got official rather than anecdotal evidence that contradicts the guidance then I'm all ears

Yes I understand the nuances of the MOT wording.

Anyone that is concerned could have the main dealer (that also does the MOT) fit them for you.

I have the secondary decat with the AMR/Quicksilver pipes.

It may or may not be too loud for you depending on your personal taste.

If you leave the car in non sport mode, it is decently quiet under about 4000 rpm and good for motorways. Plant your foot though, especially in Sport mode, and it is like all hell breaking loose.

It also gives an extra 10hp, probably high up in the rev range though.

I m not on Instagram but there s an AMOC NSW short video with the sound of mine. To my ears it is tremendous.
You can just click on the link and it will play in your browser.

This is the correct answer. I had the same setup on my previous N420 and everything was just sweet, also considering that the N420 was opening valves at 3100-3300 RPM, not 4000, not sure about your N430.

I will not comment MOT and such as my car was passing it in France, so might be different from where you are.
