I've had an Aston in mind for at least 20 years but it was never quite the right time for various reasons. Over that period I went through looking at DB7 Vantage to DB7GT, to DBS to Vanquish. For various personal reasons it reached the stage last year where I just decided to put all the excuses not to do it to one side and get on with it.

I'd always wanted a big GT as MrsT and I love a good road trip and most of our best holidays have been driving from place to place and finding unexpected things en route. With this in mind I knew that it would not be a Vantage and the DB11 just didn't do it for me. The Vanquish stood out as the last of the proper Astons and what I really wanted.

I spent 2 years waiting for the right spec to come up - blue with a light interior. Ideally Ocellus Teal, but Midnight or Ultramarine would be a close second. I really did not want silver or black. Eventually I realised that I could be waiting forever for something that might not even exist so needed to compromise otherwise I'd be putting it off forever. There was a stunning red one with a black interior but that felt too claustrophobic and I made the decision that it needed to be a light interior and, as most of the time I'd be looking out from the inside, I was more willing to compromise on the exterior colour.

A few months later I finally found my car. I was a bit unsure about the colour at first as pictures don't do it justice. In reality it is stunning and really grows on you, changing between green, grey, brown and copper depending on the light. The interior is two tone with bitter chocolate seats and ivory up top.

I bought it last autumn with 17k on the clock and have already done 3k which included a trip down to the lower part of France where it performed faultlessly.

Here are the obligatory pics - cumberland grey S.

Congrats. When you say the lower part of France, you mean the south of France?

Not quite the south. Got as far down as Cahors then back up via Vichy.

Great color, both in and out. CG is unusual in the Gaydon gen cars; more common in the prior generations. It is a great color; very changeable under different lighting angles. Call me jealous…

Very nice Mr T. I saw my first new new Vantage out in the wild yesterday and although I think the current range of cars is probably the best AML has ever produced the desire to actually buy one isn’t really there for me. Vanquish S or DBSS are the only two models I’d seriously consider changing mine for. Looks like you have yourself a splendid example there. Very well done Sir. Enjoy.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

It's well specced with ventilated seats and full ppf. I also love the way the colour disguises the carbon splitter and diffuser a bit, and the body coloured roof instead of exposed carbon. Coupled with the chrome window surrounds and exhaust tips it makes it look more like a refined gentleman's express rather than a lairy supercar.

The looks are one thing I'll never get bored of but driving it is a revelation. It just devours miles so effortlessly - almost just gliding along. 80 mph feels like 50 mph. But it has a split personality and when you want to push it harder it is surprisingly agile for such a large car. The performance is something else - it's ferociously quick and that big V12 just keeps on pulling at any speed.

And then, just in case all of that isn't enough, the sound as the revs rise and the valves cut the silencers out makes you just want to keep pushing on. It's awesome. cloud9

As Minglar says the Gen 2 Vanquish is, in our humble opinions, the pick of the bunch, unless you particularly like the current range. With your car my favourite bit is the two-tone brown and cream contrasting interior. That after all is the bit you spend the most time looking at!

Lovely choice and today i took my own Vanq S through the 30,000 mile barrier.
As you've discovered they're a brilliant GT car by any measure.
When I was shopping I really didn't want another black car and yes, guess what colour I opted for....black
Still love mine though so make sure you enjoy yours smile
