Hi folks - new owner of a Vantage V8 (AM6) hearing mixed messages about Long Stratton and the services you get there, having a quick hunt around and cant see any specialists around the Norwich area, is anyone local and can recommend someone? Its nice to have the stamp in the book but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it if there's decent alternatives?

Hi,

I use Stratton Motor Company for servicing on my 2007 V8 Vantage. Nice to get an AM stamp in the book. I have it done every two years as the car doesn't go far. And I ask for a list of things they find as they could otherwise be expensive. For example, I have repaired the headlight washers, replaced the thermostat, changed the cabin and air filters, replaced the wipers, replaced the boot and bonnet struts, replaced one chrome side strake, changed a MAF sensor, replaced the wheelnuts etc. Its not hard to fix these things yourself and you'll save a fortune. Stratton are a Marmite company, but I get on OK with them. Failing that, its a 300 mile round trip to Nicholas Mee or McGurks.

First, Stratton aren't an AM dealer so you won't get the proper Wings stamp. Second, I went there once and will never ever go back. PM for gory details if interested.

What makes you say they aren't a AM dealership?

Hmm, well they weren't a few years ago but apparently are now. I knew they had been once, then lost the franchise.

They just seem super expensive and like I say a few horror stories put you off, however the benefit is they are local. Got the car from McGurk (who were great) so wondering if worth the round trip visit or if anyone has other recommendations?

Nicholas Mee are nearer. Still a bit of a trip but you're getting an Aston looked after, not buying a loaf of bread smile
If you have deeper pockets they have a trailer service.

HWM's Flying Technician is another option but I haven't used them.

I can recommend HWM flying tech , brilliant service plus you get to have a good chat with the tech and you can provide your own oil / filer etc

So i've just had a quote back from Long Stratton for a basic service (with me providing the parts) so labour only.....and its over £650, does that seem expensive?

+1 for Mike the Flying Tech - and I think they have a second van now too, due to the service being so popular.

Not used them myself, just had chats with Mike when at HWM Cars & Coffee mornings and he’s happy to give out Aston advice and knowledge too.

You do need to check you have adequate space for the van and awning though - solid flat 6mx9m is the ideal.

…if you have a few Astons needing servicing he has facilities to sleep in his van overnight biggrin

Have you considered Grange in Brentwood? I haven't used them but another PHer does and finds them perfectly good.
