I have a feeling I’ve read about this somewhere, but I can’t find it now.

I have CarPlay fitted to my ‘07 Vantage. It has always worked fine. My phone connects no problem, and of course, the OE stereo has to be turned on to get any sound.

Today, every time I turned the head unit on, it shut off immediately afterwards. After a few tries, I twigged that if I quickly switched to the OE radio, it stayed on. As soon as I switched to CD, it shut off.

Any ideas / suggestions?

You probably have a device connected to your car's audio system that routes the signal from your cell phone into the audio system. For example, my car has a Dension Gateway, installed behind the waterfall.

As I understand it, these systems are designed to route the signal through a simulated slot in the CD changer.

If your car audio system / CD changer turns off it’s due to the car and the changer system. If the signal disappears it’s likely due to the connection device or the connection to your cell phone.

Correct - Aston Installations uses (I believe) a Mr12Volt system, whic replaces the CD changed in the MOST loop. I'm guessing this is faulty somehow as the head unit fires up OK and only turns itself off when I select CD on the dash.

My phone is connecting to the Carplay unit, as I can control everything through the 'joystick' in the centre console.

I've re-read the instructions from Aston Installations and thee's nothing that covers it. I'm not pulling the dash apart, so it looks like a visit to Tewkesbury
