Hi AM fans.
On my N420 V8V 2011, I've now a small esthetic issue on the well know mirror arm (the black one in aluminium). Of cours I had some "bubbles" under the black pain but finally, one part has gone. So I can see the oxidized aluminum arm.
To my understanding, I need to dismount it completely to treat it and repaint it.
Is there any guide and how difficult is it? How many of you has done it?
Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I did mine carefully (while sanding) with the wing mirrors still attached and used black hammerite smooth.

Below is a guide someone else has done though. I hope it helps.

I got mine removed with a plan to get them powder coated. However the mechanic didn't fancy undoing an 11-way connector so in the end they were sprayed.

I removed my door mirrors recently, if you need to spray them it's way easier off the car, just need to remove the door card, loads easier than I thought. Half an hour a side.

I did this several years ago and I seem to recall putting an article here, possibly with photos.

Anyway I took mine off, sanded them and sprayed them. I could not get one of the electrical connectors apart somewhere on the assembly so couldn’t fully separate the arm from the head, so wrapping solved that issue although not as ideal as full disassembly.

I think I needed a new seal around the small window too.

Sorry I can’t be more specific about the detail, I recall it being quite faffy.

@paul when you say door card, you meen al the interior panel of the door? If yes, did you follow a tuto or video? I would need to do it because I've a thing vibrating when I'm on some bumpy roads or listen at some high volume music and it annoys me. Thank you

You CAN do it with the mirror in situ (I've done mine). Just need to be careful and also mask up everything you don't want covered in black paint. Not a massive job. But make sure you use etching primer on the aluminium.
