Hi all,

Just a quick question..

Need to replace the windscreen on my 2012 Vantage convertible (huge stone hit.... certainly not repairable)

Obviously will be going through insurance (Admiral/Autoglass)

Amyhting I should make them aware of? Im assuming a few of you guys would have done the Autoglass route before and all good?

Dont really want to be forking out when all covered by the insurance.

Thanks

How big is the damage? If a £2 coin will cover it, consider a repair.

If it does mean replace, there is no reason why this cannot be done at home, especially if you have a garage; it's not a depot/fitting centre job.

Bigger than a 2 quid coin im afraid.

Have garage etc... im assuming Autoglass ok and not really need a specialist to look at. Windscreen is a windscreen right ?

Yep had a new screen on my previous Vantage coupe, Autoglass via insurance. They ordered in the screen to a local depot, it did take a week or so to arrive. I dropped car off first thing and it was ready in the afternoon. It looked the same as OE and the only way I could tell it had been done was the fact there was no chip/crack in the new screen smile

You want someone who won't treat your car like all windscreens are equal. The problems come from someone banging out Ford Transit and Vauxhall Astra windscreens everyday to then apply the same mindset to do something nuanced.

When you take it to a depot, a branch manager will say everything you want to hear. The next time you see your car it will have a new windscreen in it. When the tech turns up at your house you get a one-to-one feel of the fibre of their fabric. Also, you get the opportunity to see the car with the windscreen removed.

I had my 2021 roadster screen replaced by autoglass in Borehamwood last year. After turning up at the booked time, the engineer wanted to review the car before fitting as he hadn't done one before and realised there was some trim missing from what was delivered. So whilst I had to come back a few days later, I was happy that he didn't just blunder on with it - everything was recalibrated and he was visibly proud of the job he'd done.
I'd therefore recommend them - but perhaps go in and see them first.

A pity it wasn't checked on delivery and before your arrival.

The only thing I can add is to make sure they supply the correct windscreen and know how to fit it. Early Vantages had a heated screen as an option; later ones have various antennae embedded in the glass which need to be correctly connected

My previous DB9 needed a new windscreen, through my car insurance Autoglass came to replace it. They did a really good job. On the higher value cars they give the job to their most experienced fitters and they take time to do it properly.

I was very apprehensive at first but really happy with the results afterwards.

I must add that was years ago, not sure what it's like now.
