Acquiring AMDS II for an independent workshop

Hello everyone,
I’m asking on behalf of a friend who is considering opening an independent Aston Martin workshop.

As I understand it, AMDS II machines and licences are generally reserved for official dealerships. Has anyone here successfully acquired and operated a genuine AMDS II system outside the dealer network?

We would appreciate advice on:

Legitimate sources for a complete system
Hardware and cables that should be included
Licence activation and renewal
Software updates
Coding and programming capabilities
Risks when buying a used or third-party system

First-hand experience or private messages from specialists would be greatly appreciated.

All that I can tell you is what one independent has said about this and what has been mentioned on this forum.

There do appear to be some indies using AMDS 2.

The cost is far more than for AMDS 1.
An online connection is required during use, so there is a concern that AML could cut the connection at any time, if it wanted to.

The indie who mentioned that has enough up to 2018 work, so simply decided not to work on later cars.
