2019 AMR Being Auctioned

They stopped production in 2018 as far as I know so this was a very late registered car. I had a 2009 registered 4.3, they started production of the 4.7 in 2008, so again must have been old stock that was most likely sold off at a heavy discount I would guess.

Looking at the pictures it's a bit ratty in places, and the mirror arms are amongst the worst I've ever seen.

It's on mixed tyres too - PS4S rear, still on Bridgestone fronts. Which seems an odd choice

Agree with raceboy and LTP, I noticed the wing mirror arms which are a common issue on VH and not expensive to sort, just a hassle of removing them and parts to have new powder coat.

I didn’t notice the paint bubbling on roof, wasn’t looking hard, but that is pretty bad and worse than any paint bubbling I’ve seen on my 2008 V8V, although it’s still within the 10 years paint warranty so perhaps you can get it resolved by Aston or at least a contribution, I’d be looking into that before bidding as a proper respray is likely to be close to 15k.

Interestingly in the auction description it states "Full PPF protection (minor bubbling of PPF in one location along roofline)" Hmmmm

And, to make matter slightly worse, the cant rails and rear quarters on a V8V are steel, not aluminium.

Funny description indeed, lol. Cracking paintwork at this exact joint of aluminium roof and steel rear/side panel has been seen before on rare occasions but I can´t remember seeing severe paint bubbling like this. I wonder if a respray will fix it forever or is there a chance of a returning issue in the future because possibly something went wrong when these different materials were put together in the production process?

How cheap this car was when new: as far as I can decipher below GBP 90,000.00 on the road. These V8 AMR cars sat a long time at the dealerships - at least over here. Seemingly an extremely good deal was then had by someone.

I was told when I bought my V8V by another owner that the paint bubbling is common on VH platform as the prep work before plotting was not done well enough, leaving contaminants that are then reacting with the flake in the paint itself.

Can anyone corroborate or debunk this for me?

As little as is known about the EXACT causes of these paint issues: that´s basically right, yes. Only one aspect in this had been that the cars were allegedly touched/moved without gloves on at certain stages of production. But the manufacturer never officially commented on the exact origin of the issues.

Since the typical areas of the paint bubbling issues are well known, I was wondering if the root cause for the phenomenon we see here at the roof joint might be a different one? Because, as I said, there have been owners in the past who showed pictures of cracking paintwork in this very joint - not many, of course.

You’d have to suspect some type of damage that hasn’t been repaired properly.
Not a single bubble anywhere on my same vintage AMR.

As with others, never see rust there before, regardless of year.

It may depend on how it was stored. Or if a careless knife trimming PPF cut through the paint, etc.

Simply factor in, say, £5-6k for a good respray round that area.
