I was at a track day today at Guadix, Spain, and a rather nice German guy tried a bit too hard. Oversteer + overcorrection x 3 = expence...

That doesnt look toobad- no worse then a minor accident in traffic. The car wont be written off, and as long as the driver/ passengers are Ok that that's all that matters. Stuff like this happens- why do you feel it necessary to start a thread on it?

That('s) the problem with the front-end design of all new Astons, especially the V8.
Here we go again not that the front of the BMW M6 or the new Jag XK is inherently any different but I'm sure your right LA, you probably have experience of repairing crash damaged Astons, Jags, Porsches, BMWs etc.

Even a mild biff will take out bumper, grille, headlight, with a good chance radiator and bonnet will get crumpled too. Very expensive.

Isn't that the same with any car, regardless of being front or rear engined?

LA said front-end not front-engined, however it's still a daft comment.

C'mon everybody, we all know that if you crashed a Porker off the track like that and bounced it through a muddy run off area then all it would need is a quick T-Cut to sort it out, rofl...

If people didn't start threads on what they believed might be of interest to others then fora would not exist And besides, it might moderate someones over exuberence somewhere, sometime, to the benefit of all.

Martin.

Edited to add:- it hit a large earth bank...the airbag didn't even go off, but it was leaking steering fluid over the garage floor.

You keep posting V6!!! I don't think any car would come out of an argument with a mudbank unscathed...especially at track day speeds!!!

LA.... go and get your 911...you know you want to!!!!

That's not an issue, they are designed that way. An airbag can do your face some damage so they should need a hefty smash to set them off.

Oh you really do spout a load of bollox sometime LA. Take a look at the pictures and tell what the hell you are on about because unless you just want to take a mindless pop at the Aston I haven't a clue! Rich...

So a very expensive car will be very expensive to repair when involved in a collision? I doubt many will find this suprising. I accept that the design of the front end of the DB9 and V8 Vantage will tend to result in more damage than with a car equipped with a more traditional front bumper. I view it as the price of beauty. Either you accept the compromise or move on to a more traditional(and in my opinion boring)vehicle.

So you're not advocating an RSJ pinned to the front then?

Oops - that's the trouble with mult-tasking and popping in to PH. Still, the pic illustrates the design weakness. If only all of life was as timely.

design weakness my arse. Sorry L.A. you're once again doing your usual trick of talking out of your A-Hole, rather than adding value to a thread. I'm afraid you're getting the reputation of a sad, miserable old man who is becoming very tiresome to read.
Apart from that I'm sure you're a nice fella

Shady, I couldn't have misquoted you better myself.

LA, most cars tend to bend a bit at the front when the front gets hit. Fact.

Ah, the fury of car owners who brooks no criticism, no matter how practical. I don't think anyone can be "up his arse" and "taking out" his arse at the same time. You nice chaps will have to show us how that neat trick is done.

What on earth are you taking about. That's not a criticism it's just aload of old unfounded shite. You don't wind me up L.A , you just make me laugh. Sometimes, you're just such a tt

I take it that the 911s rear-engined layout is also a "design-weakness" in the event of a rear-end shunt.... which isn't too unlikely as you're likely to be travelling backwards when it all goes awry.
