Brake Pads

Do we have any choices for brake pads on an AMV8 or are we stuck with Astons offering?

OEM are Pagids I think, and very good at that - certainly better than most budget aftermarket offerings like entry level EBC, Mintex etc

if you are tracking the car, then you probably want Pagid RS42 or RS14 ...14 are more severe and what the Aston racers run, 4-2 are the best road n track compromise IMO ...

beware of extra disc wear and more squeal though - the 14s in particular squeal when cold ...which is 90% of the time on the road

yes, RS42s is what I have on mine, and they stood up well to 15-20min sessions of Snetterton

they are the best mix of performance from cold/hot etc, ive used them for years on all my sportscars, and if you ask the guys at the factory that race at the 'Ring that will be the recommendation for a road going car

I fitted the Pagid RS 4-2 Blues and my god they sqeel like a stuck pig The Aston man says it is becasue they dont get hot enough and glaze over on the surface. Is that true?

I am taking them out today to clean them up and fit Aston rubber pads to the backs and will also put a small amount of silicon grease on the pins.

I believe that the DB9 and V8v brakes are basically the same. On the AMOC forum people have recommended http://www.zeckhausen.com/Aston_Martin/DB9.htm and the Hawk ceramic pads.

no its likely because you havnt bedded them in properly ....a bit like the OEM ones to be honest ...if you dont use them hard from time to time, and just cruise up and down the motorway, they will glaze over and start to squeal

you do need the backing pads/anti squeal buffers and generally some copper slip on the back helps prevent that kind of squeal in my experience, but if you havnt bedded them in, it might never go away ...

Well I had the pads out and chamfered them up again and cleaned the faces. Then I put the rubber pads on the pad back and then the metal shim on that and put them back in.

Now I will drive up the A1 at 110 as suggested and bed them in LOL. If I get stopped I shall refer plod to the bedding in procedure.
