Well my lovely car has had the "Bellcrank Assembly" replaced but apparently to no avail. (See previous gearbox thread). My dealer has reported that the next course of action is to examine the clutch. This isn't what I was expecting on a year old car. Two weeks withdrawal symptoms now with no early end in sight.
Fed up, but at least the weather has been such that roof off motoring hasn't been a priority.
I will report on eventual cure, just in case anyone else suffers this problem.

Hi Di, if the gear change is ok when engine off but difficult with engine running usually points towards a clutch issue rather than related to the box, but if selection is difficult with and without the engine running normally would indicate a gear selection issue, I would have been surprised if it was the bell crank lever, hope you get it sorted soon,

Update.
Worse than I 1st thought. The dealer wants to replace the clutch but also waiting for AM to see if they will authorise changing the gearbox at the same time.
So anther week gone by, and no nearer getting my car back.
Royally pi**ed off.

Hope they've given you a courtesy car in the interim (and I bet its not an Aston!)Worse than I 1st thought. The dealer wants to replace the clutch but also waiting for AM to see if they will authorise changing the gearbox at the same time.

Update...
Nothing untoward found with stripped clutch. New gearbox on order, so hopefully fingers crossed I should get my car back soon. I did suggest that as a precaution wouldn't it be easier to put a new clutch in at the same time.
I am not being greedy just worried that if there is a problem after the new gearbox installation then presumably it will all have to come out again. As I am not a mechanic this could of course be rubbish.
It would worry me less if they had identified the problem, but they admit they know its there but just don't know the cause.
So still in my X Type courtesy car for now.
