I've noticed over the last few days that when I open the door of my V8V i get a warning bong type of noise.

I pretty certain this is a new occurance as I don't recollect it making this noise before.

Does anybody elses V8V do this?

Does anyone have an idea what this could be and how to stop it?

Thanks

John

The lights are off.

Also if the door has been opened and the bong noise has sounded if you shut the door and then re-open it a couple of minutes later the bong noise doesn't sound.

If it's not the lights warning, I have no idea what it is.

Is it a sportshift? Do these warn if you turn it off in either neutral or in gear (not sure which way os the "right" way on an Aston)?

Have you got any messages on the console?

No it's a manual.

Today I have a low battery warning message but I'm certain the noise was there a few days ago before the Low battery warning. Battery is now on charge so will see if it is related to this but I suspect not.

The car was in the dealers having some work finished and this noise ties in with the car being returned to me. I've called the dealer to ask what this could be, waiting on a call back.

Hi John sounds like you are having fun, I believe your car has just had the thermostat replaced, it is possible water from the cooling system has got into some of the electrics possibly lighting and may be triggering this fault,

Thanks Rick,

Would it be right to assume as the car is used (done less than 100miles since stat was replaced) it will dry out and the fault disappears?

It may rectify itself or be completely unrelated, when making the sound flick the light switch on and off does the sound stop for a few seconds and then reappear,

Rick,

The bong noise only happens once as the door is opened, it doesn't repeat itself with the door open like it does when the car is warning you that something is left switched on.

Maybe the dealer updated your software so you are now being told about something which you weren't before ? Or you've now got a default setting instead of a custom one ?

I have noticed the same thing happening to my car too - I cannot find any pattern to it
And its not because I have left the lights on!

For me this is good news;)

On mine i have established the following
1. the noise is not present if the passenger door is opened.
2. if the passenger door is opened and then the driver's door the noise isn't present.
3. if the driver's door is opened and it "bongs", it will not bong again if the door is opened again within a set time period.
4. I don't know how long the time period (certainly more than 5mins) before the car resets itself and will "bong" again when the door is opened.

V8 BYF Have you recently had your coolant stat changed?

It went in for a service 2 months ago - I cannot recall if it only happened after the service or if it was happening before too - It is in again next week so will ask them if they have any clues

Update for anyone that is interested.

I've been away for a few days and left the car locked in my garage.

I unlocked it this morning and I didn't get the bonging noise when opening the door.

Further investigation revealed that

If the car has been locked for a period of time and then unlocked I don't get the bonging noise when opening the door

If the car is left unlocked for a period of time I do get the bonging noise when opening the door

Would be interested to know if this is the case with other PH'ers

Cheers

John
