Hi all
I need new front brake pads for the V8. Stratstone charging £500 for them fitted. I know a very nice man who can do them in Derby for much less! But is there anywhere in London anyone knows of that might be competitive? When enquiring about tyres Kwik fit said they could do it (and do it regularly) but can they be trusted? Am i super naive?
Thanks very much.

The pads themselves are not difficult to fit, there are a few things to consider as in i would not use copper slip on the pads which a lot of mechanics like to spread like butter this just attracts dust to stick to it, so just a bit of care and attention and making sure everything is clean and free, if you have a garage who carries out repairs on mainstream cars they would have no problem with this job and as usual always available to offer advice if any questions needed to be asked,

buy a jack and do them yourself in your lunch break maybe? wink

fook me, but £500 to fit some brake pads is really taking the mick ...is that including the price of the pads surely?

Give some other dealers a ring - when I live in Brentwood and used Grange, they were less than that, inc the pads

I'll never use EBC pads again. Tried them on my 7 and they were truly rubbish.

Pagid all the way (on the 7 too).

also not a fan of the ebc pads, seem very good for other applications but not the Aston's, as for part ceramic these i believe are hawk which are available for some of the earlier Aston's but as far as I am aware are not available for the vh chassis cars, still not found anything that compare to the standard pagids,

Pagids or Carbon Lorraine for me please ....on a Vantage for road use, havnt found a reason yet to change from OE Pagid 4-2-2 ...if you want more fierce trackday pads get some Pagid RS14s, but beware the squeal when cold ...which is most of the time on the road

IIRC OE pagids are "E" marked, others may be for track only.
Changing pads on these are pretty easy, Im shocked at the prices that keep coming up on here!
Pads are circa £250 but £250 to fit??

(Mustn't shout too loud, I knicked a clutch job from them at christmas after they quoted £5k! In the end it cost the guy £1500 smile

Rick,

Do the wear sensors have to be replaced when the pads are changed or can the old ones be re-used as long as the haven't broken the circuit to trigger the warning on the dash?

This was the set-up on my old 911 however sometimes due to the heat the wear sensor just crumbles into a million bits when trying to recover them.

Cheers

John

Hi John very similar to the porsche they can sometimes be reused if they have not been worn through, but can easily fall apart when removed from the old pads, so in most cases they will require replacement but not always,

Thanks Rick, reckon I'll be seeing you for some rear pads after a few spirited drives with my fellow enthusiasts and my trip to LeMans in June.

Hi guys
Well a bit of hard bargaining paid off - got main dealer to do 'em for £350 + VAT which is not bad for London I think. Presume the sensors were still active as they didn't charge me for them. Result!
