I've recently been pondering getting something nice to run for 12 months before settling into a life of comfy, cheap, diesel hell. I feel I have to get either the V12 Aston or V8 Ferrari thing out of my system before we're all condemned to death by lentils.

Thought I'd get in on the research now to either promote or demote the idea of a DB9, depending on what's said, of course.

So, if anyone wants to give me some idea of what I could expect in 12 months of DB9 ownership (and I'm NOT talking about women rubbing their fishbox over it), what to look for, what to avoid and typical running costs, it'd be most appreciated.

Ta.

I can't be held responsible for the actions of others.

the "fishbox" comment.......An Aston owner wouldn't use that turn of phrase but a very young footballer with too much money and a foul mouth might.....and they normally drive Ferrari's.......so best go for the Ferrari

I agree with Michael. Looking at your profile you definitely should get the Ferrari.

Actually, I borrowed the phrase from something written by Rowan Atkinson. Unless I'm bitterly mistaken, he has owned and still owns a selection of Aston Martins.

This naturally invalidates your point.

Thanks for playing, though.

So what's wrong with an Aston V8 instead of a Fezza?

Nothing wrong with the V8, per se, it's just personal preference. I believe the DB9 would make for a more comfortable and relaxed driving experience, more typical of a true GT, than say a V8 Vantage.

Rawwr I find the comment offensive, and I'm sure the many females who use this forum would also find your comment offensive.......I think you just should have thought a little more before you posted your question.

I find your unwillingness to stick to the topic offensive, I find your perceived marque-snobbery offensive and I find your judgmental tone offensive.

If you're genuinely offended by the term 'fishbox', use the report button.

How about you don't look at this thread again and I won't talk to you again? That way, everyone's happy and we can all move on.

So don't understand DB9 vs V8 Ferrari,. If you want a true GT then that rules out the Ferrari. Decision made! smile

I think the fishbox comment is pretty funny, only a feminist (or someone who had a bad bank holiday) wouldn't.

If you're worried about someone using those types of phrases tarnishing the image of DB9 drivers I wouldn't look too hard at some of the drivers of so called tasteful cars.

Ah, they're different decisions, though. If I go the Aston route, I'd like a GT, if I go the Ferrari route, I'd like a sports, if you see what I mean.

The only possible exception is a California, they seem more GT than sports car. Still, not quite a DB9.

Unfortunately, the California is a mess. It's also an expensive mess. These are two good reasons not to buy a California. smile

Not really. But then I love Astons, not keen on Ferraris. Different ownership image to the marques IMO. 4.7V8 with Sports pack is going to hold its own against a Ferrari on the road, and with a better brand image.
Also, you can use the V8 Vantage as a GT - Surrey to Southern Spain and back last year

To be honest, I care little about the image but I understand your point and will readily admit that a V8 Vantage isn't entirely out of the picture, I just prefer the idea of a DB9 smile

Californias don't look that good in the flesh. Their is something gratuitously flashy and overblown about them. In my opinion it's a poser's car.

I was chatting at the weekend to a guy at a petrol station who had a DB9 Volante and previously had an F430. He found the F430 unreliable and the DB9 far better built and just as enjoyable a drive. Just what he said. I'd have the 9 if I were you.
