I am going to have a Parrot kit fitted by James at Paralight and he suggests fitting the little screen in the cigarette lighter compartment. This is certainly a neat way of doing it but is it still easy to use in this location? I have a Parrot in another of my cars and find I have to scroll through loads of numbers, so concerned having it placed in the centre console may not be ideal? If you have a Parrot system (or know of a better one) please let me know.

I had one fitted last week. Its the MKi9000. It doesn't have a screen just a small wireless remote that fits snuggly within the ashtray compartment. It is very easy to use from there and most of the functions are voice activated anyway.

Thanks, I didn't check which model James was referring to - and in any case I've only ever seen the type currently fitted to another of my cars. Does the voice activation work well in a noisy Aston?

You can use the MKi9000 with an iPhone for music, but I believe it does not work with the Aston's MOST system....James?

Mine does work with music via Bluetooth but I have an iPod connector and that works better for me. The voice control does seem to work well at the moment.

I use the Parrot CK3100, the looms are then chopped to pieces to utilise the pre-wiring that exists in the V8. There is the addition of a mute relay, buried in the passenger footwell, by the CEM. This controls the audio to play via the front speakers and also instructs the ICM (infotainment control module)to pause the CD (or Ipod if fitted). The hands free is then routed via the front speakers. The display for the Parrot kit then resides discreetly in the ashtray, this can also be set for voice activation. The advantage of having the display is to see incoming calls before answering them. Having said that, the MKi 9000 will speak the name in a digitised voice. Parrot have cleverly recorded all the most common UK christian names into the Mki range, it then digitises the surname and puts the two together. It can come a bit unstuck on some company names though smile

The reason for not using the Mki for Ipod is, as mentioned, to do with the MOST (Media orientated system transport). The Parrot kits use their own amp 4x15W RMS. When this is compared to even the base model 160W system, it does sound quite flat and lifeless. There is a way of adding this into the MOST but by the time this is done with a Gateway device, it would be as well to have a bespoke Ipod Gateway device. This way it can be controlled via the ICM with display on the car rather than having a separate display in the car somewhere. I much prefer to have a completely discreet installation rather than having anything on show.

I hope all this makes sense.

Kind Regards,

James@Paralight

The Parrot Minikit Slim is a very neat option. It fits inobtrusively on the sun visor and works brilliantly.

Is a hardwired one better or are they the same?

Thinking of having one fitted in my Vanquish, but if the sunvisor version is as good as normal one (albeit sound not through car speakers it'd probably make more sense being able to use it in all cars.

I use a Jabra Cruiser 2 as it fits neatly on the visor, looks smart, streams A2DP music via an integrated FM transmitter and produces really good quality calls. Recommended.
