aston martin ownership

Looking at selling my TVR and going for a Porkie GT2 etc opened a thread on Griff pages and looks like Aston martin gets the thumbs up for driving appeal akin to a 500 Griff.
See through threads here that quite a few AM owners are ex TVR, so lads how good is the 4.3 and 4.7 Vantage and can it accomodate a 6ft 6inch heavy framed driver?
Ownership quite a few knockbacks on build quality etc and body corrossion, so whats the truth

There are literally dozens of us ex TVR owners who have come over to the 'dark side'. Few with any regrets judging the threads and posts on here by ex TVR owners.

I think the simple answer is to get a few test drives under your belt and see if it's for you.

Don't do a direct comparison, they are vastly different animals.

From a personal point of view it was the right decision

I'm a 6'4" larger athlete, and fit fine.

The seats have a serious amount of adjustment. Make sure you try all of them out to get comfy.

Counter-intuitively, I find the most comfy position for me is to have the seat forward off the rear stop, but then lower it at the rear a good amount, and the backrest raked back. (When I first got in the car I felt I was way too close to the roof and that there was no leg room...until I had a long play with the seats).

All that said, a Griff has a lot more room in it, especially leg/foot room. So don't expect that level of space

had a load of tivs,then a db7,then a v8v(4.3).had the v8 from new for 4 years and it has been head and shoulders the best car i have ever had the pleasure of owning.i literally waved it off yesterday with a heavy heart.watching it drive down the road from my house broke my heart.sad,i know and the only thing that kept me from shedding a tear is the knowledge that i am only a few weeks away from getting my new toy,a ferrari f430!!.

aston ownership has been an absolute joy and the last 6 years of my life have been richer for the experience.i predict i will be back in the fold in 2 or 3 years time for a dbs.in the meantime i get to tick another life box with the fezza.
my advice is to go and have a test drive,but be prepared to put down your deposit straight after!!

To add to the experience ask if you can pull out fuse 22 on the test drive...

I confidently predict there will be another ex TVR Aston Martin driver soon!

now i have to give it a go my step daughter has 2 DB9,s and my kneck is crook when in the coupe, so i may just be to goddam big for a vantage, some for sale about 9 miles from where i live one is a 400 limited also the dealer has some porkies etc so may be a one stop visit to dteermine if i can get my big arse in the seat.

Hi there, I was out in a test drive today in a DB9, and like others have mentioned you just have to play with the seating a bit but I found it very comfy, likewise not as much room as my TVR Chim but a great drive and I too am 6'6" and big build, the V8 vantage is just as comfy, probably a little more leg room. Get in a few, I have and love them, I'm just waiting for the right one but I'm keeping the Chim....

Thanks i,ll have another bash in the step daughters then try a vantage just got to fimish my Sea Trials and then go look, love to keep my Griff but we have downsized as coming up for retirement and only have a single garage. I will not complain if i i have to forget changing the Griff , but my dream as always been to have a Turbo Porkie but i just love TVR,s , as i have 4 years to go to retirement i will have a change then go back to a TVR as i,ll have plenty of spare time to get dirty and sort it out.
So wheres the best AM indie in Lancashire

Only had my V8N420 roadster for a few days now but love it , only one set of clubs in the back though get two sets easy in my Chim , wot I have done in the V8 my Old Griff 500 would have tried to kill me , I hate to say it better than my F430 Spider

No way is a 6ft 4in bloke going to get in a DB7 !! with any comfort anyway.

My son in law in 6ft 4in and its a problem ????

Much more room in a TVR Griff or Chimaera.........

Having said that.....I loved my Chim, and moved on to a DB7, But I'm only 6ft.

Love both the AM and my TVR. Some years ago I promised my sons that I would never sell the Chim. They even got me to sign a piece of paper to that effect. So when the V12V turned up, there was never any question of selling the TVR. The driving experience is of course very different but I appreciate both because of that.
In any event, given the financial dent in buying the AM, part exchange was pointless, so they are happy garage chums...

btw, I've heard a few people say they can get comfier in a V8 than a DB9....not sure why. Might be that the wheelbase is only 14-15cm more on a DB9, but it squeezes a second set of seats in?
