Emissions system service required,

Collected my new 2006 Vantage from the independent dealer this evening.

After some strong acceleration the above message appeared and won't go away after a further 40 miles.

At home I discovered that the car did not have fuse 22 fitted so I have fitted one but the message remains.

What would you do?

The car has an insurance based warranty for 12 months but should the dealer take care of this.

Is it likely to go away?

I, like many others have removed Fuse 22. Although it logs an error message in the system somewhere, no message is displayed in the car (07MY).

So, if I were you, I'd remove Fuse 22 and enjoy the noise when you take it back to your dealer! I think this is something they should deal with as the car should have been serviced and inspected by them prior to delivery.

could be because its not been driven a while - often comes on with change of driving style i.e motorway cruise for weeks, then go for a good thrash ..its seems a bit temperamental for sure

mine throws up a cat sensor error from time to time, had it checked, changed, still does it at random

anyway, a £30 OBD II reader off ebay is handy to reset it from time to time - read the code first to see if its anything serious

of course your dealer should check and reset it for you if you have a warranty

oh - leave the fuse out, its not that anyway - thats just a flap in the exhaust back box

I'll give the dealer a call. They are not Aston specialists so I guess they might direct me to someone who understands the car.

The reader/reset looks like a simple solution

I did give her some 'beans' before the message so perhaps it'll go away again after some cruising.

I was a bit disappointed when there was no fuse to take out, thought it could do with more noise.

if the car is running fine, the "malfunction" is likely an out of range error from one of the cat O2 sensors ...which seem to happen on my car for no reason ..its a quirk LOL

wiring checked, sensors checked, cleaned, replaced etc etc ...mind you its got better this year, its not been on all year so far (touch wood)so fixed itself

at least if you have a reader, its 2 mins to look it up yourself - the codes/workshop manual you can download, look it up if its anything serious take it to the garage

if its a weekend car and you dont intend on lots of long holidays with the missus, then they are many aftermarket exhausts that will fit the bill for LOUDER noise, try to have a listen beforehand though as some are an aquired taste or just too loud for more than 10 mins in the car

Guys, I take your point about Fuse 22 as I too have removed it from my DB9 (well, Rick did it).

That for me is sufficient 'growl', and I certainly don't want people turning round thinking here comes another Boy Racer.

Perhaps I'm being a bit of a snob, but my perception of AMs is one of refinement as well as power.

If you really want excessive noise, might I suggest a different car next time?

Almost certainly a change in driving style - mine does it from time to time too, and nothing to worry about. The yellow check engine light should clear itself after about a dozen engine starts as you use it. (Not of course a dozen restarts one after the other in your drive !) As suggested a cheap OBD II is a good investment to check the fault codes and quickly extinguish the warning light.

Had the " emissions service required " message on my 57 plate V8 Vantage a few months back after some spirited driving returning from Cornwall.

The AM dealership couldn't find anything wrong and just reset the computer.

I've looked on e bay at OBD 11 readers but can't work out which one I need.

Can anyone advise with an e bay item number please and give basic instruction on how to use ?

you plug it into the port under the drivers side dash (see user manual) one side is engine, the other body, plug it into engine socket

switch it on
switch ignition on
read codes button

write down code
clear codes
switch off and disconnect

it really is self explanatory on most of them

you can look the code up in the workshop manual and see what it means

if your dealer is a bit of a drive, then its £40 well invested - you can use on pretty much any car too, so handy thing to have in the garage

certainly when out of warranty, you dont want to be paying dealers an hours labour for a reset !

I bought a reset device off Rick and the little orange dooberry sorts the emission warning out when it pops up.This is well documented on here and elsewhere nothing much to do with fuse 22 just oversensitive engine management.If you leave it alone it can take five plus long runs to reset itself.

I don't think so. The std one fills the underside of the car at the rear, and looks like it was welded by a blind monkey. Using a cigarette lighter and tinfoil.

Fear not though, in your pipe and slippers and DB9 no one will ever confuse you for a boy racer

The V8 Vantage is one of the best sounding sportscars out there. It deserves to be heard through a better outlet than the cheap tat std exhaust that comes with the car.
