DB9 50,000/5 years service schedule
Discussion
Just had a 40k 5 yr service at main dealer £2000. No extra's (Tyres pads etc) just straight in and change the air filters, oil and filters, fuel filters, not plugs as they are supposed to be a 70k change, mot but nothing need doing to pass, etc. All the normal stuff.
It will be specialists from now on.

think main dealer replace plugs and coils around the 50k mark as they are prone to going from that kind of mileage, just listen out for the popping on idle, even if it does state 70k on the clock for the change...rick can you confirm or deny ?
You need 12 coils and, obviously, 12 plugs. Coils are approx £50 each and plugs are approx £10 each.3200gt said:
There was lots about the whole experience I was unhappy about, hence my 0 out of 10. All they have done is lost a customer.... Forever.
I agree with Quinny. For a start, it looks like they've charged you 61 quid for the MOT, which they aren't allowed to do AIUI.
Why the hell have they put "fuel treatment" in and did you ask for the screen treatment?
Oil is par for the course - if using a main dealer, it'll always be cheaper to supply your own oils based on what they charge. When you consider what they must pay for the stuff, they are all royally taking the piss.
I'd definitely have a word with the manager of the dealership. Explain your dissatisfaction and ask for the costs to be explained. Anything that falls outside of what you asked them to do (or what they're allowed to do!), you get a refund.
at least you didnt get new tyres fitted and then charged in the service 1 hours labour + vat (£140) for a "tyre check" ie.. "6mm/6mm/6mm" ...errrmmm thanks for charging me to tell me youve just fitted new tyres FFS ! ...when queried "oh sorry sir part of the standard service, left in by mistake" ...but I suspect if I had not queried it, I would have been charged
..isnt that the issue? ; where they are trying to sneak in all sorts of bits n bobs to up their profit margin, like screenwash...no doubt you can top it up before you go, photograph the bottle for evidence, and still get charged for 5L on the bill "as standard"..and im sure there are many owners who barely look at the bill ..
/havnt been to a dealer since the tyre check incident.......

Tried that and got absolutely nowhere, "sorry sir, that is the cost of owning and running a premier marque vehicle"Hi all , i am a bit confused
40k service or a 5th year service , as big difference.
your invoice looks like it was a 40k , as air filters was changed , by the way you have 2 of them @ £75 odd.
In this service the gearbox/transmission oil should be changed as well , but can not see this.
if it was a fifth year service then a coolant changed is advised.
Alot of you know me , and yes dealers are genrally more , but we all know this is for reasons , my amazing workshop , with very costly tool cabinets and speaicalist tools, plus many many more , let alone the millions of pounds of showroom to make a dealership, take all of that out , and find a nice little workshop with some people with aston knowledge, then it all becomes so easy to be alot cheaper , hmmmmm.
bye i am off.
have a great weekend.

For me, it's not just about the money, it's about the feeling of being ripped off, or paying a fair price for a good job...
I mean correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't find anywhere in my Vantage book that says it'll need a "fuel additive" at service time
And does oil really NEED to cost £180 pounds to make a bit of a profit on??
You are so right and i agree with you ,i have only been in the trade for a couple of years , and i am disgusted at some of the prices etc , but at the same time now i am in management i now know that the is process that dealers have to follow to make a profit.I mean correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't find anywhere in my Vantage book that says it'll need a "fuel additive" at service time

Remember , you buy a aston , who gets the most amount of profit.
The profit a dealer makes is very small, but have to spent millions and millions in the first place the get that product. So with a very large busniess plan they have to spend years and years , trying to make a very small profit to claw back that outlay, the way it is now , with independants etc, dealers are sruggling to make any thing and are ultametley closing quicker than pubs , if this carrys on , then the will be no places to sell new cars etc, etc.
A indy workshop , small cheap rent , limited tools and knowledge, a dealership , millions of pounds of stock, and workshop,10's of thoudands of pounds worth of tools , staff highly trained both sales and aftersales(this is a massive cost), tools dianogistic equipment.
This will never change, not just in this business in alot of business , what i am trying to do is bridge the gap.
Respect
Alan.
I just had an interesting experience with an AM dealership regarding some warranty work.
My driver's door would not open from the inside, so I took the door panel off to discover the cable nipple had broken and so wouldn't stay lodged in its holder. So I took it to the dealer and asked them to fix it along with some other stuff that qualified under the warranty. Next I get a call saying the cable isn't broken after all, but had merely become disconnected. Consequently, it didn't qualify as warranty work and I'd have to pay for them to reconnect it. Anyway, I pay up and get the car back. Today, there's an annoying rattle from the door panel, and so I remove it again to take a look. Low and behold, the cable nipple is still broken, but all the dealership did was to put it a cable tie to keep it from popping out again. And they charged me an hour's worth of labour for the privilege (whereas it would have taken me about 5 minutes to do the same fix myself).
That's pure and simple dishonesty, and they won't be getting any more business from me.

Alan is this your personal opinion or can you substantiate your claims, some specialists have such as amds wds, tpms kit, etc etc, the limited knowledge claim I actually find amusing,Ref when the plug change is due it is 70000 miles or 7 years, the DB9 does no suffer with the coil problems that the DB7 had, so unless misfires are evident and diagnosed as an issue with the coils there would be no need to replace them,

Interesting - I had the same cable break on my passenger door. Does this happen a lot?My driver's door would not open from the inside, so I took the door panel off to discover the cable nipple had broken and so wouldn't stay lodged in its holder. Rick those comments where not meant at you fella , as i know you have AMDS plus many other specialist tools. Yes at a 7 year service , it is only recommended to have the plugs changed. Ref when the plug change is due it is 70000 miles or 7 years, the DB9 does no suffer with the coil problems that the DB7 had, so unless misfires are evident and diagnosed as an issue with the coils there would be no need to replace them,
