V12 Vantage: Strong Vibrations when engine is running idle
Discussion
I'd like to revisit this issue and ask, if any of you is experiencing the same strong vibrations when engine is running idle ?
One can feel it through the seats and the steering wheel, even the rear view mirrors are vibrating. It's happening every four or five seconds for maybe half a second.
If I raise the rpm to 1200 or higher, it goes away.
The dealer says "no problem" its because the V12V has stronger engine bushes but then why does not every V12V have this vibrations ?
I'm a bit worried that there could be a problem with the engine or drive train which would end up in an expensive repair once the warranty period is over.
Any thoughts ?

If its bothering you don't muck about with your "its not a problem"dealer, my advice would be to ring Martyn Rummery
at Works Service and get their thoughts.Hopefully he will give some piece of mind regarding what does seem to be a
concerning issue.
As for mine the answer to the question is no it doesn't do it,but if it did no doubt I'd have been told no problem, its just a Beachboys limited addition...........

Thank you, I was kind of expecting that it's not standard on the V12V
The car has 4000 miles on the clock.
Unfortunately, my english is not good enough to call Works Service and describe the problem and understand any advice they can possibly give me. So I'm more or less stuck with the local dealer.
May AM Guru Rick has some idea what the problem could be ? *hinthint*

Personally I think that if your dealer is saying "no problem" then you should advise them that others are NOT experiencing the vibration and demand they contact Works Service and get a written explanation of what they think could be wrong.
There is obviously something not right, and I would be demanding investigation, answer and solution.
Good luck

I have a similar thing with my DB9... although I don't any get feedback through the steering wheel, there's a distinctly metallic "chatter" from underneath the car every few seconds when it's idling, as if something isn't connected tightly enough.
It's going into the Works Service at NP on Wednesday, so I'll report back any findings!

Hi martin, firstly has the issue always been there or as it got worse or suddenly appeared, which fuel are you using and is it from a main stream supplier, has the car had a flat battery recently and the problem has occurred since,
reference the DB9 if an automatic the noise is quite common, and in many cases just annoying, in many cases it is the plate that is bolted to the flywheel and it is the springs within this that rattle, fitting of a new drive plate and spigot bearing is normally required to rectify,

Rick - hope you and Kay had a nice break.reference the DB9 if an automatic the noise is quite common, and in many cases just annoying, in many cases it is the plate that is bolted to the flywheel and it is the springs within this that rattle, fitting of a new drive plate and spigot bearing is normally required to rectify,
I wonder who will be the beneficiary of your 1,000th post.
Will there be a prize for the recipient?

Martin Rummery at WS is taking a look at my car at the V12 homecoming on the 17th. If you email me a fuller description of the problem ( although what you have said already seems clear) I would be happy to pass on your concerns and report back any comments.
I am sure you would be understood as your English is excellent, but if I can help I would only be too delighted.
This is something I feel your dealer should do automatically, or diagnose the problem and sort it. If you want me to speak on your behalf can you supply the name of your dealer so WS know who to contact. I am presuming it is a main dealer!!

We have seen a lot of issues with cooling fans transmitting noise / vibration.
Is the A/C running when you feel the problem? Can you see if the A/C cooling fan is running / not running when you experience the problem?
Mike.
Thanks everybody for your replies.
@Rick/Mike/Di:
The issue has always been there since I bought the car last spring. It was an ex demonstrator with 800 miles on the clock. If I had to decide I would say it got a tiny bit worse over time. I always use 98 ROZ fuel from the major suppliers. The car never had a flat battery, at least not during my ownership.
Just came back from the garage. The problem persists even when turning off A/C. The interval between strong vibrations varies between 3 and 10 seconds. In between there are some smaller vibrations. One can really feel them through the seat, so I'm not sure if they are actually coming from the engine or maybe the torque tube or fly wheel ?
The Engine is idling at around 800-850 rpm. The problem completely disappears at around 1100 rpm.
There is no mechanical noise assoiciated with those vibrations. The A/C however makes all kind of funny noises when turned on/off (mechanical "click") and during driving.
@Di: That would be really very kind of you. How can I contact you ?

. Think there might be a reflash for that problem, get them to see if your car is with in the range. It's going into the Works Service at NP
